PUBG Mobile Has Been Released For Free In US And Other Regions

The popular battle royale game is up for download on iOS and Android.

The massively popular PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is now available on mobile. Following a round of beta tests in Canada, PUBG Corp. has rolled out the mobile version of PUBG in "many" regions around the world, including the US.

Described as a "faithful adaptation" of the PC game, PUBG Mobile features the same last-man-standing gameplay experience that helped propel the title to become the third best-selling game in Steam history. Like the PC and Xbox One versions, PUBG Mobile pits 100 players against each other on an increasingly shrinking map, with the object being to outlast all the other players.

No Caption Provided

The mobile version of PUBG was developed in collaboration with mobile gaming giant Tencent. "We are working hard to create an authentic PUBG mobile experience that players new and old will love," said Chen Jerry, Tencent's Corporate Vice President. "A lot of [work] went into controls and optimization to give players a smooth and intuitive experience."

Unlike the just-released mobile version of Fortnite, which is currently only available to select iOS users who have signed up for the invite-only test, PUBG Mobile can be downloaded for free on both iOS and Android devices from the App and Google Play stores. Those with iOS can grab the game here, while Android users can download it here.

PUBG Mobile arrives after receiving "large amounts of positive feedback" following Android and iOS beta tests in Canada last week, which took place on March 15 and 16, respectively. However, whereas the mobile edition of Fortnite features cross-play and cross-progression with other versions, PUBG Mobile doesn't appear to offer either.

Download this the other day and man. This game is amazing on mobile. Came 6th place first game. Killed about 8 players, and two were bots. Plays amazingly well. Has more features than the current Xbox One version as well. My phone recommended high setting so that's dope. Keep those Xbox updates coming, really like the recent one.

I don't even play mobile games anymore since the PSP Vita days but looks like I'll be getting into this for sure. Plays extremely well for Mobile game standards. Best mobile game I ever played honestly.

Iv never played this in my life and i cane first in first game. The controls are so bad. The bots wouldnt hit a barn door with a shotgun. You cant move aim and fire at same time either unless you put 2 thumbs and 1 finger on the screen.

@johno357: FWIW, the controls are actually an IMPROVEMENT over what is standard for mobile FPS/3PS. :)

I'm not saying it's ideal, but it's better than most.

So I installed it immediately to see if it's true... OMG, the bots are so laughably bad. Not even trying, I got 2nd place and only missed dinner due to the controls getting stuck sprinting into a corner.

It's pretty bad. Basically a fake MP game at this point. Named bots just stand there shooting slowly at you.

Also, there's no Invert Y axis.

For a mobile game, the controls are responsive and the graphics are okay on High (they suck on both PC and XOX, and always have, so it's unfair to compare them to much else). Much more "sparse" than PC though.

Inventory mgmt is as good here as it is on PC.

The important thing here is the "fake 100-player MP." I.e., "you're not REALLY playing a PUBG match." Maybe they'll fix that.

@spartanx169x: its a joke playing with bots. It would take them 5 mins to kill you 20 yarda away. Im not joking.

It looks and runs great in with the HD graphics settings on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8. Way better than I thought it would. The controls are pretty good too. One of the best mobile ports I've ever seen.

just played it. Honestly it is more responsive than Fortnite (played it by reaching lvl 10). Aiming assist its priceless (good point if you are playing on phones) compared to Fortnite in which the cursor cannot keep up at all with the movements. PUBG graphics looks surprisingly awesome and leveling it to poor and high keeps your phone away from heating. In Fortnite the inventory bottom is placed in a terrible position in which can be pressed anytime by misplacing your thumb from the movement pad on screen (maybe that's an issue only for those who play the game on iPhone 7 and others like that). I am a huge fan of Fortnite but in mobile PUBG it is played way better. The only thing that concerns me on PUBG mobile is that the items/guns have a lot of details/info in small fonts that are not easily readable. But in any case, by playing PUBG you can collect/earn some stuff which makes you play it even more. With Fortnite I went to lvl 10 and earned just a donut logo for the banner -_-

@altairdarius: You don't have to buy micros in the game for it to make money. It collects some user data like wifi connected devices so it can make money that way as well selling the data info.

@Bread_or_Decide: Not really, since Fortnite is currently in testing on mobile, while PUBG is released already. From this point of view, it's clear who beat who to this market. I think it's also obvious which is the more well though-out product (Fortnite, IMO).

@Bread_or_Decide: well kind of. Fortnite is on iOS and not on Android yet. So pubg beat them there.

this sounds completely stupid to me... who will play this game on mobile and still have a chance at winning? how will the control scheme work? not every game needs to be ported to mobile -- on the contrary, many games were NOT designed with mobile in mind and have no business being on the platform. this is what you call: selling out in the hopes of cashing in on whales.

@Xristophoros: I tried it out this afternoon and couldn't even finish the match. Of course, my phone is more than three years old and it forced my graphic settings to low, but from what I could play was unplayable. And for the two minutes I did play it, my phone was burning up already. I just wanted to check it out to see what it was like. Needless to say, I won't be playing it again.

@Xristophoros: The only competent way to play it on mobile would be to get one of those clips which attaches your mobile to your controller then play. Honestly though the battery life will be totally sucked dry and the phone will heat up to the point you think it will explode samsung style. Like you would have to leave your phone plugged in at a charger to play multiple matches in a row.

Edit: Turns out there isn't controller support.
