"As soon as we know, we'll let you know."

PlayStation fans have long requested the ability to change their PlayStation Network names. But to date, Sony has not delivered. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like that's going to change anytime soon. PlayStation Boss Shuhei Yoshida broached the subject today at Paris Games Week in France.

Yoshida said he's not even sure if such a feature is possible, though he's hopeful it can be delivered someday. "When? I wish I knew," he said in a Twitter video.

"We are aware that lots of people are asking for the feature," Yoshida added. "Our engineers have been looking into what they can do. As soon as we know, we'll let you know. But as of today, we don't even know if we can ever do it. Hopefully we will be able to provide that feature in the future."

Last year, another PlayStation executive, Shawn Layden, explained that it wasn't a technical issue keeping the feature from being implemented. Instead, he said it came down to trolling prevention.

"We don't want to make it so that you can go in, grief a bunch of people in Far Cry, change your avatar, change your username, go into CoD and grief everybody over there. We want to stop that," he said.

Name-changing has been available for years on Xbox platforms. The first name change is free, while additional changes incur a fee.

Interestingly, just recently, a leaked PS4 survey asked respondents if they would like the ability to change their PlayStation Network ID. Clearly, Sony is thinking about the feature, but it doesn't sound like it's going to be delivered anytime soon.

Would you like the ability to change your PSN name, even if it's not free? Let us know in the comments below.
