Pokemon Go: New Gen 5 Legendary, Tornadus, Now Available

Tornadus is appearing in Raids starting February 4.

Comments

Heatran has officially left Pokemon Go, but a new Legendary has taken its place in the game. Tornadus, one of the Legendary Pokemon from the Unova region in Pokemon Black and White, has made its debut in Raid Battles beginning February 4, making this your first chance to catch one in Niantic's hit mobile game.

Until February 25, you'll be able to encounter Tornadus in five-star Raids. Before you can catch the Legendary, you'll first need to team up with other players and battle it; if your group is able to successfully defeat Tornadus, everyone who participated in the Raid will earn a handful of Premier Balls and a chance to capture it.

Now Playing: Pokemon Sword & Shield Are Getting Expansions, New Pokemon, & More - GS News Update

Tornadus is part of the Forces of Nature trio, alongside Thundurus and Landorus. As a pure Flying Pokemon, Tornadus is especially vulnerable to Rock-, Electric-, and Ice-types like Rhyperior, Raikou, and Mamoswine, so your best bet to catch one is to bring along Pokemon of those types when challenging it.

If you don't yet have a Rhyperior, you'll have a chance to get one later this month. After a day of fan voting, Niantic announced that the featured Pokemon for February's Community Day will be Rhyhorn. Not only will you have your first chance to catch a Shiny Rhyhorn during the event, but you'll also be able to get the exclusive Rock-type attack Rock Wrecker if you can evolve it all the way into its final form, Rhyperior, up to two hours after the Community Day ends.

Similarly, you'll have another opportunity to add a Raikou to your collection this month. A new Special Research quest revolving around Team Rocket is now live. As before, the questline culminates in a battle with Team Rocket boss Giovanni, and if you can defeat him, you'll have a chance to catch a Shadow version of Raikou. You can read more about how to catch and purify Shadow Pokemon in our guide.

Niantic has a ton of other events lined up for Pokemon Go this month. A new batch of Field Research tasks is also now live, and if you complete enough to achieve a Research Breakthrough this month, you'll get a chance to catch another debuting Gen 5 Pokemon: Woobat.
