PC Versions of Xbox One's Scalebound, Crackdown 3, Quantum Break Not Ruled Out

"It's not to say those games could never come to Windows..."

Microsoft has no plans to bring Xbox One games Scalebound, Crackdown 3, or Quantum Break to PC right now, but they could be released for computers later, Xbox boss Phil Spencer says in a new interview.

Speaking with PC Gamer, the executive explained that these games aren't coming to PC, at least not right away, because development on these projects began before he laid out his vision for gaming on Windows when he took on the role of Head of Xbox.

"In the case of things like Scalebound or Crackdown or Quantum Break, you know, just to be completely honest with you, we started those games before we really looked at expanding into Windows in the way that I wanted to bring as part of becoming Head of Xbox," he said.

When he was promoted to Head of Xbox in March 2014, Spencer said he was hoping to promote the Xbox brand as an ecosystem that spans multiple devices, including Xbox and PC. At the time, he said he believes "in the power of technology to bring games and entertainment to life across console, PC, tablet, and mobile devices."

In the interview, Spencer went on to say that asking the Scalebound, Crackdown 3, and Quantum Break development teams to add another platform to their plate wasn't in the best interest of the games. That "didn't really feel like necessarily the best way to end up with the best result for the game," he said.

PC versions of Scalebound, Crackdown, and Quantum Break have definitely not been ruled out, however, Spencer stressed.

"It's not to say those games could never come to Windows, but right now we're on the path to finish the great games that they've started, and I want that to be the case," he said.

Two other Microsoft-published Xbox One games that eventually came to PC are Dead Rising 3 and Ryse: Son of Rome. A PC version of Sunset Overdrive is also up for consideration.

Xbox One games from Microsoft that are coming to PC include Fable Legends and Gears of War Ultimate Edition. In the case of Gears of War, Microsoft has confirmed that the PC edition will launch after the console version. But Microsoft has yet to announce specific release plans for Fable Legends.

If Scalebound or Crackdown 3 releases on Windows PC they will more than likely have Cross-play between the Xbox One and Windows PC

That would be great for the Xbox/gaming community

@rooster42: Everyone loves supporting Microsofts software when it's good but they never support terrible hardware with a shallow game selection so I'm glad I'm supporting a world where Microsoft abandons Xbox and focuses on what they're good at.

The thing you guys forget is if you own Xbox you own your games on PC and Xbox. So if I want to spend a bunch of money for a real gaming rig I already own the game to play it on there. So as an Xbox gamer I'm good either way. And with dx12 I can run games even better on both my PC and Xbox. I see nothing but upside. Great games, great online, great service, great console its all good over here. Game wherever you want. I got GOOD games over here not just a bunch of filler. F all those booty Indies.

No you don't. You own an X1 version that you're streaming. If you want to max something out, 1080p+ resolution, with 60+fps you'll need a rig and the PC version.

@subsided94: because there are games like halo 5 and forza that are only on xbox and them saying a pc version of some xbox games is not ruled out is not the same as conforming them. and if these games do eventually come to pc it will be when some new fresh ip appears on xbox. plus some people like to put a game in and play as appose to tinker with hardware and setting

@rooster42: I don't get your reply. My point was never about not giving money to MS, but that the Xbox One has a lot of games going to the PC and giving less reasons to buy it.

@fedor: Ok. But some cemments gives me the impression that its not the case...
I read "i gonna wait for Halo 5,Sunset Overdrive,Gow4,Scalebound,Forza to come to PCs...i dont need a X1".

Thats just my impression.
The X1 doesnt cost a fortune, you get games 1-2 years before they come on PCs.

@rooster42: Eh just cause most games run on Windows? Microsoft has a very weak video game presences on the PC, porting these games helps with that, but under the same umbrella? I don't think so

They can bring all the games to PC for all I care, as long as they stop charging Xbox players for multiplayer. It needs to be fair for everybody, which means it must be free for everybody too!

It would be nice if those games came to PC, but they're not anything I couldn't be without. I'd rather the older Crackdown games came to PC as well as Sunset Overdrive.

I was hoping for Scalebound to be a deep and intricate game, but after watching the gameplay it looks a lot like monster hunter meets sunset overdrive. All flash and no substance. But Platinum games hasn't disappoint yet, so might as well wait and see...

This is good news for everyone but the selfish fantoys who use exclusives as ammunition tallies in those "console wars".

Microsoft makes their money from Xbox on third party license sales and Xbox LIVE. Very few PC gamers will go out and buy a $350 - $400 machine to play a few games. MS makes no money on the console sale.

It is just best to lower the barrier to entry and release the game on a platform that used by a different set of gamers.

Vast majority of console gamers will still see these games as exclusives....because they play on CONSOLES!.
