Alan Wake has proven popular with gamers. Developer Remedy Entertainment has told CVG that combined sales of Xbox 360 and PC copies of the original have passed 2 million.

Alan Wake has been a bright spot for Remedy.

The studio's head of franchise development, Oskari Hakkinen, told the site that sales of this level make the game a "cult classic." Alan Wake launched for the Xbox 360 at retail in May 2010. A PC version was released last month, recouping its development and marketing costs in only two days.

Asked about the potential future of Alan Wake, Hakkinen said, "Alan Wake is definitely very close to our hearts. It's our IP--we own it. It's not something that we're going to forget very easily."

This statement falls in line with comments made by Remedy CEO Matias Myllyrinne last month, who said plans for a new entry in the Alan Wake series are already "in motion."

A follow-up to Alan Wake--Alan Wake's American Nightmare--launched last month on Xbox Live Arcade. For more on the original Alan Wake, check out GameSpot's review of the Xbox 360 version.
