No Plans For Wolfenstein: The New Order On Nintendo Switch--So Far

"That's a Bethesda discussion, honestly."

Originally released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC in October 2017, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus launches on Nintendo Switch on June 29. Switch has quite a few AAA ports already, including Skyrim and Doom 2016, but Wolfenstein II is a little different in that it's a direct sequel--and it's coming to a new platform before its predecessor does. For those who haven't played MachineGames' Wolfenstein series before, jumping in with The New Colossus might seem daunting.

During E3 2018, we spoke to Adam Creighton, studio head at developer Panic Button--which also did the Doom port--about Wolfenstein on Switch. Creighton specifically mentioned the excitement around getting a Wolfenstein game on a Nintendo console, saying that it will be some Switch owners' first experience with the series. But there are currently no plans to bring Wolfenstein: The New Order or its standalone prequel, The Old Blood, to Switch.

"That's a Bethesda discussion, honestly. It's [up to] them and Nintendo as to what would work for the platform," Creighton said. "I think it'll be interesting to see how [The New Colossus is] received right after it launches at the end of the month and what Bethesda does from there."

When asked to confirm that there were no plans for ports of those games, Creighton said, "Not currently. Not that I know of, but Bethesda may have other plans. And we on the Panic Button side are totally up for anything."

Creighton also confirmed that the DLC for The New Colossus is not included in the Switch port at this time. "Right now we're releasing the base game. Bethesda is going to look at what the reaction is in the market, what people want," he said.

TNO lacks replayability for a shooter, and anyone who had any interest in the game has likely already played it.

I would buy it. I liked the new order better than collasus and I would think that it would run smoother since it's older. It's the 60$ price tags that urk me. Skyrim and Doom are still @60 unless you buy from Amazon their around 50. 40$ for a new ported title seems fair to me.

Kinda makes you wonder why anyone would even buy a Switch, considering they tend to get games later than the other consoles do.

@DEATHWlSH: Kinda makes you wonder why anyone would buy a PC or XB1 considering 99% of the games people buy on them are on PC, and run better on PC.

Maybe if Old Blood get decent sales on that system... bam. More availability of good games has to be good for anyone.

Maybe they'll remake New Order with the latest engine. That could be interesting.

But despite the latest engine's scalability, didn't DOOM require even more tweaking?

@Veemon_X: that's no wonder. New Order consists for 60% out of cutscenes. If you cut them all you down to like 3-4 playtime.

@Veemon_X: yeah, 30fps and sub hd and on lowest graphics settings. Still looks good if you never played other ver, the engine is very versatile.

Game developers make really dumb decisions at times, one of the most common being to port a sequel of a story-driven game to a console which lacks the previous game, thus leaving those who only own said console no means of experiencing the full story, and reducing the appeal of the port, then they typically respond to the subsequent lack of sales with bewilderment, apparently incapable of understanding why the game sold poorly.

Next they'll be announcing that due to poor sales of Wolfenstein 2 on Switch, Bethesda will no longer port any games whatsoever because clearly there's no audience for their games on the Switch, regardless of how well Skyrim or DOOM sold, which is typically how developers respond to such things.
