No Microtransactions Or Multiplayer In Respawn's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

So the opposite of Battlefront II.

During Star Wars Celebration, Respawn boss Vince Zampella confirmed that Jedi: Fallen Order is a solely story-driven, single-player game. So no multiplayer or microtransactions to speak of.

On the Star Wars Celebration Day 1 live stream, Zampella said, [Jedi: Fallen Order] is a single-player story game… No multiplayer, no microtransactions. It's a story game." Zampella's words were met with applause and shouts of joy.

Now Playing: Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order Release Date and Trailer Details - GS News Update

[Update: Saturday's Jedi: Fallen Order panel has concluded, having brought us both the first trailer and a release date: The game is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 15. There were also some high-level details shared about the story and its protagonist, but we didn't get a look at gameplay and learn a whole lot about what the game plays like. The panel was light on information overall.]

Jedi: Fallen Order writer Chris Avellone's earlier comments, when he said story is "very important to Respawn."

"I hope [the six writers] are listed in the reveal because I accidentally said 'I've wrapped this up,' but there are other writers and I'm not even the lead guy," Avellone said. "Story was very important to Respawn. I think they do a good job of introducing various narrative layers into their games already, but they think the story is an important part of what they perceive to be a Star Wars game. That's one of the reasons I like Respawn, because when they tackle something like that, they understand what the important points are."

The Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords writer has said he's done with his portion of Jedi: Fallen Order's story. "I think they brought me on because I have a pretty strong Star Wars pedigree so I'd probably be able to just jump right in," Avellone continued. "And I was, which was good. It didn't require a ton of new research."

Jedi: Fallen Order was revealed during E3 2018, and Zampella said the Star Wars game is set after Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. You'll play as a Jedi Padawan that escaped Order 66, and you'll have access to a lightsaber. Respawn is expected to announce further details about Jedi: Fallen Order during a panel at Star Wars Celebration on April 13 at 11:30 AM PT / 2:30 PM ET / 7:30 PM BST.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is currently scheduled to release Fall 2019, presumably for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Some art for the game has already been leaked. Despite not knowing much about it, there are quite a few people and places we want to see in the game.

they don't need to put micros and shit in this game, think about it. respawn and ea have had differences in the past but ea know, respawn are talented and good at their job. so respawn get full creative freedom over making the star wars game, They want to make. whilst ea gets fat off Apex. 2 products, 1 farms wallets 1 hopefully rebuilds what little of their reputation that's left.

except, what I can't get past is, the one light of hope ea has, as a company is a god damn yawn wars game. I could care less. even though I am actually really excited to see what it is they've done, but as much as I like respawn I hate star wars.

There won't be mirco-transactions or multiplayer AT LAUNCH. EA will take a play out of Activision's playbook and add all those things AFTER the reviews have been published.

Lets face it there is NO WAY there wont be multiplayer in this game. EA stated Years ago they want all their games to be multiplayer or at least co-op. im not againt multiplayer but this is why they have FIFA, Battlefield etc. You want multiplayer go play those games. Bioware dont do those games they do single player experiences.

I wonder if Disney have told them that if they dont remove microtransactions completely, they will lose the licence? Its the only thing that makes sense since I dont believe EA would ever be that consumer friendly willingly.

It'll probably have base game, silver edition and gold edition though. And you'll be missing out by not buying the $120 gold edition with DLC and a statue and stickers and a pin and 3 songs from the soundtrack and a steelbook.

EA has a penchant for showing one thing and releasing something completely different than what was promised. I'm not holding my breath.

with all the shit ea has got lately they just needed to release one token game to appease disney and the raging boycotters.

if this game gets about 9/10 then boards will be full of "ea finally learned" and them those people will buy the next bunch of ea games even if they slowly get worse again

What I am confused by, and I am looking at the pre-order site on the Microsoft Store, right below the price and pre-order button, in small print it reads, "+ Offers in-app purchases".

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/star-wars-jedi-fallen-order-pre-order/brfcjls52hfl?activetab=pivot:overviewtab

So if it doesn't have transactions, what is this?

A pre-order gives us cosmetic items. That then makes one assume there are other cosmetic items to be had in the game title. Will those be sold? Isn't that then a micro-transaction?

@orionreplay: That might be a placeholder, like how retailers will put December 31 as a launch date when all they currently know is that at game will come out this year. Or maybe the plan is to let players buy DLC expansions in the game.

To all the "It's EA so its bad" people this is the studio that made Titanfall 2 a few years ago which was very solid. If EA didn't make that game suck there's no reason to assume this will. Of course I'll wait to see gameplay first but I'm hopeful.

@icing: EA didn't own Respawn at that time. They published the gamebut had no involvement.

It's likely true here as well. EA had no involvement with Apex Legends either. We've got a few years of Respawn being able to product stuff of the same calibur until the tendrils of EA creep deep enough under the skin that the two are indistinct from one another.

@Dragon_Nexus: Yeah, just like Dragon Age Origins and Mass Effect were in development when EA bought Bioware - they were relatively unscathed by the influence. That quickly changed.

You know what else doesn't have micro transaction, and is also firing shots at such companies? Subverse, which is currently doing really hot on Kickstarter.

At this point I believe Respawn. Reason because Disney and EA do not want another BFII controversial before the latest SW movie hits theater.

It seems weird EA'd dedicate a whole bunch of resources to a single player only game with no microtransactions. Those tend not to bring in nearly the dough stuff like FIFA does. Of course, I guess they've tried about everything else with Star Wars so far.

@Mogan: This is what makes me miss the PS2 era when publishers would just put things out and see what worked. We'd see developers and publishers budget for a game, sell it, promote it and make a tidy profit. It wouldn't make billions but it would make them money.

Now it's an all-or-nothing situation. If it's not the number 1 selling game that makes a billion dollars a week, it's not worth funding. Or if it's funded and doesn't become the above, then it sold "BeLoW eXpEcTaTiOnS" and will be unlikely to get a sequel.

@Mogan: I think being a Star Wars game is a big part of it. Disney probably isn't happy about their prize franchise getting bad press and I really doubt the Battlefront games have been as profitable as they wanted. Respawn just delivered them Apex which has been a huge hit and checks all the modern gaming trend boxes so they probably have some leeway to make decisions.

I think the game development industry on a whole suffers from bipolar disorder. Vince a few years back on Titanfall's lack of single player.

"WE MAKE THESE SINGLE-PLAYER MISSIONS THAT TAKE UP ALL THE FOCUS OF THE STUDIO, THAT TAKE A HUGE TEAM SIX MONTHS TO MAKE, AND PLAYERS RUN THROUGH IT IN EIGHT MINUTES. AND HOW MANY PEOPLE FINISH THE SINGLE-PLAYER GAME? IT’S A SMALL PERCENTAGE. IT’S LIKE, EVERYONE PLAYS THROUGH THE FIRST LEVEL, BUT 5% OF PEOPLE FINISH THE GAME."

@beantownsean: Well i think the whole development process is very long and we know that, but one thing he is right is that people dont even bother finish games anyway, he says 5% percent but i think is more between 10% and 20%. But I think always has been like this and developers know, thats why they tend to focus in more repetitive multiplayer games because for some reasons they have long lasting appeal in the community.

Maybe EA has finally learned something? Was Patrick Soderlund leaving what they needed to finally start realizing that "games as a service" isn't the only design philosophy they should follow?

...dare I hope that we get a complete product at launch?

It's cool to hear the news from Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order. What about DLC? But, I'm thinking about is the game going to be fully functioned (games have been released unfinished & game breaking bugs with it).

This is exciting, but not unsurprising news. EA has released bad game after bad game since Andromeda. Their reputation has been dragged through the mud, and they started sending out surveys that take over 30 minutes to complete, trying to figure out what gamers want. There were noticeably a lot of questions asking what gamers liked about The Witcher 3, RDR2, and asked about what games I was looking forward to.

I think EA might finally be realizing that no one wants to play hollow mmo games that are pay to win and have no semblance of community. I hope they don't ruin this game, and that EA learns to stop insulting the intelligence of their consumer base.

This isn't done out of kindness, EA rep is so horrible it's damaged the Starwars brand and Disney was not happy.

As with all things, it boils down to money, not some moral compass.
