Now Playing: No Man's Sky - Review

As promised, Hello Games has now released a new patch for No Man's Sky on PC. While the full patch notes have not yet been released, director Sean Murray wrote on Twitter that the update, available now on Steam and GOG, adds support for "more hardware" and also improves frame rate for lower-spec computers.

A patch for the PlayStation 4 version is also on the way. According to Murray, it will improve stability and "lots more." Patch notes for the console update have also not yet been shared, but the update has been submitted to Sony and should be released "very soon," Murray said.

The developer also wrote on Twitter that "less than one percent" of players have reported issues, though this is presumably only counting people who have filed official support tickets. Whatever the case, Murray said, "We're going to resolve roughly 70% of them this week" with the patches.

While a sales number for No Man's Sky has not been announced, Murray suggested that even 1 percent of players is a big number. "It's pretty crazy for us how many people are playing. And how large a number even 1% of that user base is," he said.

No Caption Provided

Finally, he said Hello Games is "totally focused" on customer support efforts right now. After issues are resolved, the studio will "move onto improving and adding features to the game."

Murray has talked about adding new content like "the ability to build bases and own giant space freighters." He has also teased that major-sounding new features could come in the future.

"If you hoped for things like pvp multiplayer or city building, piloting freighters, or building civilizations… that isn't what NMS is," he said. "Over time it might become some of those things through updates."

Some updates will be free, while others could cost money. Murray recently said he was "perhaps naive" to suggest that No Man's Sky would only have free updates.

In other news about No Man's Sky, a dataminer has found references to poop and Xbox One. For more on No Man's Sky, check out GameSpot's review and what other critics are saying.

Still crashing like crazy for me on PS4. I like to think I'm kicking this game's ass so hard not even infinity can keep up with me.

@dodgers0022: My buddy can't keep himself from flicking the controller or hitting buttons while in warp mode, lol. I've seen him crash it 3 times doing that! He also streams Spotify in the background. "The game already taxes the PS4, why you giving it more to think about?"-his roommate.

@voltron-iii: Lol! Hilarious! I haven't died. After 40 pirate kills and 700,000u walked nothing has managed to get my number yet. And seeing as how I'm a maxed out tank now I don't think anything ever will.

I'm not sure what they are patching on PS4, it works well for me. It's not a 60 dollar game, but 30 for sure! The game is fun if you like exploration.

so the dev has taken the route of pretending there are no problems and addressing nobody's concerns...

didnt he say less than 1% of people have issues with the game, which is ridiculous as every youtuber and reviewer i know has had problems with the game, including myself and my friends.

Murray you are this years recipient of the "Peter Molyneux" award for excellence in bullshitery

So gutted with this it could have been amazing if they settled for say a million planets that had depth and things going on, I'd like to see some npcs walking around doing things and spacestations that looked different on the inside, with a verity of furniture in different places, and some villages to explore on at least some planets, also I'd like to be able to fly along the surface of a planet with a risk of crashing to a fiery death, Have the auto pilot as an option!!

Well, it wasn't the crash issue that got fixed for me. Downloaded the patch, fired it up and it's now crashed twice in the past few minutes. Both times happened when I went to check my discoveries on that menu.

The other 99.xx percent have already moved on.

@Adenosine: Yes, and it's always the "vocal minority" that complains about a game. It's always just "a small number of people" that encounter the given bug. This is an obvious PR spiel to downplay the seriousness of the issues present and rampant in the game. I'm sick of this.

@Martin_Pagan: Honestly, it usually is. I know when you're the person who is experiencing the bug, it is really hard to have the problems you're facing minimized by someone else... and considering that one percent of a million copies sold is about 10,000 users- 10,000 users can make an awful lot of noise.

I'm one of the lucky people who haven't experienced any bugs. I haven't heard any friends complain either. But I know that there are bugs, and they are an issue. And 10,000 people experiencing bugs is a lot of people and they deserve help.

I get the feeling that Im the only human walking around in no mans sky. What would be cool is if some of the trading ships that fly in the sky actually landed and i could see them mining resources, just as much as im doing. That would at least give me the impression or the illusion there's actual LIFE going on, on these planets. If its going to be a single player game, the NPC's need to be more interesting, I need to see something going on , some kind of LIFE happening, on these planets. It's VERY empty.

@nyran125tk: Hello Games said that npcs landing on planets and taking off would be in the game. Theres a thread on reddit that shows all the things HG said you could do that arent in the released game. They lied about a lot of things.

@pelvist: They do land, their ships land in ports , but then take off, nothing actually goes on, nothing happens. You meet and greet , , can buy their ship, sell some stuff.......and.........................they leave. I should see some of them walking around the planet doing the exact same thing as me. Hell, even mining the same rocks as me, so it I have to go find another rock to mine. If I want the rock, be cool if you could pick a fight with them. Just anything would be better than what's there right now. But no, you have these little robots that get annoyed if you mine Iron or carbon. Im guessing im going to find out where these little robots come from? But judging by how they are giving me information about civilizations in this game world at the moment. It's possible even those little robots wont be explained.

@nyran125tk: Have you ever gotten the creepy feeling you're being followed? More often than not when I land a Hulk Jump I hear a second thud and the crunch of gravel a moment later right behind me. I spin around firing off a mining beam hoping to cut somebody in half but there's of course nobody there. Animals are ruled out, it has happened on barren planets. It's becoming maddening, like the ghost that follows you in The Witness.

I found the nicest looking planet yet. Perfectly temperate. Amazing colors everywhere. It's too bad every single freaking creature wants to eat me and spew my remains out in a pooh-geyser.

@Chernnunos: Oh yes, I completely made up that story in hopes that Mary Kish would read it and giggle and contact me to say thanks for the chuckle and she's now my Imzadi come and get it big boy.

Or maybe not. I named the planet Shireland Prime. Go visit it, I have no idea what galaxy it's in but its spelling resembles the ingredients of Fiber One brownies.

The only creatures that haven't attacked me on it are flying slugs who are vegetarians but have an erratic attitude. Even the sentinels have shown hostility despite the fact that I only mined a small amount of plutonium. I can't give Mary babies with all those blue scans, fellas.

@Chernnunos: What is wrong with you?

Padgagers System. Shireland Prime. Go find it sometime and see if you can explore on foot for longer than ten minutes. There's plenty to discover there because I gave up and left after getting swarmed by creatures at an abandoned outpost where the door was smashed down.

If you've visited fifty planets in only 48 hours of playtime, it's no wonder your experience is "totally different". I spent at least five hours on each planet.

Try harder.

Yesterday I decided to log in once again, after being tired of the game after experiencing numerous and unfortunate crashed. FIrst planet I decide to land on, I do while browsing my inventory. Game crashed once again on my PS4. I'm done with NMS.

@Fandango_Letho: it's not much of a silver lining dude but I'm getting more than enough crashes as well. I'm being dangerously optimistic that these patches will help cure the issue as I do enjoy the game and want to keep playing but having to restart when it resets is becoming ridiculous.

I do enjoy the game for what it is, but I have to wonder exactly what Hello Games is going for with keeping a game with so much potential as minimal as it's being kept. At this point, there's very little reason to continue the journey and it seems a waste to have such a seamless universe with as many planets and objects to find and limit players to travel, collection and the occasional combat. I have no regrets about my purchase and enjoy the game, but think it's a mistake not to do more with it.

@adamus: So instead of answering my question you direct me to the internet...where one could find anything written by anyone with a half a brain.

I looked at this game on the internet months before it's release and, although I wasn't totally satisfied with the end results, I cannot say that Sean Murray actually lied about anything that I noticed. Granted he was vague on some topics (which I now see the reason for)...but did not lie from what I can tell.

I don't believe for a second that it will ever become one of those things. Just like their multiplayer statement, about how the only way you'll see your character is to meet someone, it's something said to keep people playing and buying more copies.

He says "base building" and I straight away think Minecraft, but we all know it'll be as disappointing as popping down a premade base and there will only be like 3 designs...

@baral-o: Heck, I wait for the reduced priced greatest hits with all the DLC and patches to come out. For example, $19 for Dark Souls II with all the fixings and none of the day one headaches is my jam. I'm grateful for all the beta testers who paid to help fix the game for me. I'll do the same with No Sky's Man in a few months to a year. The final game will be fantastic all due to the hard work of these beta testers who pay to fix people's games for them.

@Bread_or_Decide: For sure , I waited to The Witcher 3 and im so glad I waited till all dlc is out and all the patches and expansion packs have been released and It cost me way less for the entire game inc expansions , than it did on release day. Same with Skyrim, I waited fort the GOTY complete edition adn I'm even waiting for the Fallout 4 complete edition before I touch that game to. I agree with you. With today's game companies, I almost feel like i cant buy a game on day one. I feel like im constantly playing half a game on release day, then 6 months later they finally release the FULL game with all the dlc and expansion packs and the cool thing is single player games you don't really need to play them on day one. They can be played anytime. EVEN Street fighter 5 of all the games in the world that do this, haven't yet released the full game yet!!

@nyran125tk: @baral-o@Bread_or_Decide I could not agree more with all you folks. That is why my Steam wish list is currently at 187 games. I wait for the Summer and Winter sales and reduce the number by 20 to 30 games each time for far less then the day one folks, and those games usually include several if not all dlc available.
