Nintendo's Surprise Direct-Style Video Reveals New Switch Games, Including Some Out Now

Even more games to play on Switch are on the way.

With Gamescom 2018 taking place this week, Nintendo debuted a surprise Indie Highlights video just ahead of the event's start. Essentially a Nintendo Direct focused on third-party indie games, it revealed a number of new games that are on the way to Switch, several of which are either out now or are coming extremely soon.

In terms of the newly released games, Bad North, the blend of real-time tactics/strategy games and roguelikes, is out now on the Eshop for $15/£13.49. Vikings invade your homeland and, with your father dead, you take on the task of leading the defense. PS4 and Xbox One versions launch next week, on August 28.

Now Playing: Nintendo Switch Indie Highlights: All The Games And Release Dates - GS News Update

Also out now is the Switch edition of Prison Architect ($30/£25). As with the versions available on other platforms, you design a prison from scratch and have to manage its inhabitants' needs. If you're quite happy with your creation, you can upload it for other players to grab and play with. The Nintendo Switch edition includes two DLC expansions: All Day and a Night, and Psych Ward. Escape Mode will be available for purchase as DLC "later this summer."

Finally, there's Morphies Law ($20/£16), which launched later in the day on August 20. This is a bizarre shooter where your character grows as they shoot, providing them with different abilities--though staying small provides benefits such as being able to make it through small passageways. It supports online multiplayer for 4v4 matches.

Also showcased during the Indie Highlights video was a Switch version of Terraria (releasing in 2019), Windjammers (October 23, 2018), Windjammers 2 (2019), and more; you can watch the video above and check out a list of everything that was included below.

More crap to skip on the eShop. This is the nonsense that started to come to the VITA when it had failed.

@agramonte: Vita failed long before that my friend. Also, tons of indie games are what made the Vita a cool handheld, along with all the third party JRPG support.

@Bread_or_Decide: That is what kept it alive. The dream of Gravity Rush, Uncharted and SlyCooper on the Go is what made it cool. And getting RPGs like Persona and Cold Steel.

We bought 5hr Indies and random jRPGs and Graphic Novels because that is all that was left. You knew it was getting bad when the Garbage Mobile games showed up in the PSN store. And the Sony apologist started doing the same thing the Nintendo ones doing with the Switch now. Pretend that mobile crap like NOVA (Or now Arena of Valor on Switch) was now good because it had a VITA release.

@agramonte: That's not a good comparison. Indies saved the Vita as they saved the Switch. Indie games on the go makes so much sense it's crazy anyone bothers to stay glued to their monitors or tvs to play them. Where the switch beats Vita, of course, is in the continued first party support, and yes even better third party support than the vita got and that's sad knowing Nintendo's reputuation in that arena.

@Bread_or_Decide: Indies did not save the VITA - In the end it failed. Most people do not play Indie games on their Monitors or on the GO. Why they budget games and straight to digital. For most, They fill games till the next AAA. Why the Switch still being outsold by 1million a quarter.

Yeah, What keeps the Switch alive is Nintendo. Their iP translate well to a Hand Held like the Switch (every 1st party on Switch has cartoony graphics). Nobody wanted a butchered Last Of Us. Well, 3rd party compared to a SONY failure - so that is not saying much.

@agramonte: I should have said "saved" the vita. Clearly it's DOA but whatever life it did have wasn't due to first party support that's for sure. Switch stole its best ideas and made them better. One of those is to make it a platform where indies can thrive and that's a good thing for indie devs and gamers. You're wrong, if Nintendo alone keeps their consoles alive what happened to the Wii U? Switch has better sales, the same support, and much more nindie support and better third parties. You love to throw this excuse around when Nintendo succeeds, but where was this instant success when the Wii U failed?

Also the PSP proves you wrong again, GOW,MGS, Killzone, Daxter, and more on portable was amazing, downgrade and all.

Why is prison architect so expensive? Isn’t that like a $7 Steam game?

@mbrogz3000: exactly. That's what keepa me from supporting many of the indie games i might possibly buy.. besides they are years old, they are 3 times the price. If they were carts, okay, since those are more expensive to produce; but, that's not the case in 99.999% of these games.

@xnshd: lol pretty much. And don't forget, double the price of all other platforms. What a bargain.
