The 2018 sequel Pacific Rim: Uprising might have been a box office disappointment, but the sci-fi action series is set to continue on the small screen. An animated Pacific Rim show is on the way from Netflix, and the first images have been revealed.

The series is titled Pacific Rim: The Black, and it will arrive in 2021. The first two images were released on Twitter feed for Legendary, the studio which owns Pacific Rim. One shows a pair of young Jaeger pilots, while the other reveals a huge and scary kaiju. Based on these pictures, it seems that animation is the perfect fit for Pacific Rim--check them out below:

The Pacific Rim show was first announced back in 2018. At the time, it was reported that the series will focus on two young siblings who discover an abandoned Jaeger while trying to find their missing parents.

The showrunners on Pacific Rim: The Black are Craig Kyle and Greg Johnson, who have previously worked on animated Marvel shows such as Ultimate Avengers and X-Men: Evolution. The series co-produced by Tokyo-based anime studio Polygon Pictures.

The first Pacific Rim was directed by Guillermo Del Toro and hit theaters in 2013. Del Toro originally intended to direct the sequel, but multiple delays led him to leave the project, with Daredevil showrunner Steven S. DeKnight taking over. Pacific Rim: Uprising was met with mixed reviews reviews, and GameSpot's Michael Rougeau stated that it "simply can't escape its predecessor's massive shadow."
