Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann has responded to the report that the upcoming Last of Us multiplayer game has been put on ice. He told Entertainment Weekly that he had "no update" on what's going on with that game and he wouldn't discuss a potential third Last of Us game either.

"The Last of Us is obviously a world I love deeply and know our studio and fans do as well, but I have no comment at this moment on the series' future beyond our focus on The Last of Us Part II Remastered," he said.

Druckmann went on to say that Naughty Dog has "other projects in the works."

Before this, Druckmann said Naughty Dog had chosen its next game, but he declined to say if it would be The Last of Us: Part III, the rumored new sci-fi game, or something else.

"I know the fans really want The Last Of Us Part III, I hear about it all the time," Druckmann said. "All I can say is that we're already into our next project, the decision has already been made. I can't say what it is, but that is the process we went through."

As for the Last of Us multiplayer game, it was recently reported that Naughty Dog put the game "on ice" after Destiny developer Bungie reviewed it. Naughty Dog's next release is The Last of Us Part II Remastered, which comes to PS5 in January 2024.

Beyond games, The Last Of Us Season 2 for HBO could begin filming as soon as January 2024.
