THQ is getting tricky with the pricing of its upcoming MX vs. ATV: Alive, with plans to discount the game but offer weekly downloadable content. But even without the tweaked pricing scheme, the MX vs. ATV franchise has performed well for the publisher. THQ announced today that the franchise has shipped more than 10 million units lifetime-to-date.

Included in the 10 million tally are all installments in the franchise created by Rainbow Studios. Beginning with MX Unleashed in 2004, the series picked up the "vs. ATV" suffix with MX vs. ATV Unleashed in 2005. The series continued in 2007 with MX vs. ATV Untamed, garnering a reserved critical reception, before rebounding slightly in 2009 with MX vs. ATV Reflex. A PSP-exclusive version, MX vs. ATV: On the Edge, also saw release in 2006.

Along with announcing the franchise's milestone, THQ announced today that it would formally unveil the next installment in the series with a trailer as part of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross season opener in Anaheim on January 8, 2011. Titled MX vs. ATV: Alive, the game is currently scheduled to arrive for unspecified gaming systems this spring.
