Mortal Kombat X PC Fans Likely Getting Their Wish Soon

Following a frustrating launch on PC, NetherRealm revealed earlier this year it would not bring new Mortal Kombat X DLC--or its complete edition, Mortal Kombat XL--to computers. That may not be true for much longer, according to two different sources.

Series creator Ed Boon, who has a propensity for teasing announcements on Twitter, sent out a message recently with a not-so-subtle hint. "Maybe we should Karry eXtra Long People who Care?" he wrote, attaching an image of a circuit board. Look at just the capitalized letters (an approach he's used before to reveal things) and you get MKXL PC.

Since then, a SteamDB listing has been discovered for something called the MKXL Enhanced Online Beta. You can find the beta on Mortal Kombat X's Steam page; it's available until Monday, August 29, at 10 AM PDT.

This doesn't come as a complete surprise, as Boon published a Twitter poll in July asking what fans most wanted to see. One of the options was a PC version of XL with support for GGPO (a netcode system for ensuring lag-free online matches), which garnered 48 percent of the 10,000-plus votes. Boon commented on this at the time, saying, "Looks like you guys really want a PC MKXL and some character love/buffs! We hear ya!"

Mortal Kombat X was released on PC alongside the Xbox One and PS4 versions in April 2015. The first DLC pack (Kombat Pack 1) was also released on PC, but the second one was not, nor was Mortal Kombat XL, a complete version of the game that includes all DLC.

The PC version of the game was troubled right out of the gate--literally. NetherRealm opted to use a new installation system meant to allow the game to be played without all files being downloaded, only for this to prevent some players from installing it at all. This was followed by numerous issues, including crashes, in the ensuing weeks, as well as a patch that erased save games.

Boon presumably wouldn't be teasing a PC version if an official announcement were far away, so expect to hear more about this soon.
