Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance PC version requires Internet connection? [UPDATE]

A fix is on the way.

[UPDATE] Konami is aware of the issue and a fix is on the way.

The original story is below.

The PC version of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance launched today, but its arrival was not without issue.

Numerous Steam users are reporting today on the game's forums and to Kotaku that the single-player game will not function without an Internet connection. The game reportedly will not start while in Steam's offline mode. What's more, if your Internet connection drops, you'll supposedly be kicked from the game right away.

It is possible that the issue is a simple bug and not any kind of DRM from Konami, but that remains to be seen. We've reached out to Konami for comment but have not heard back yet.

As Kotaku points out, the Steam product page for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance does not inform purchasers that the game requires an Internet connection. The game originally launched for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in February 2013.

The PC version includes previously released DLC (Blade Wolf, Jetstream, and VR Missions) and runs at 60 fps.

<< LINK REMOVED >>Your avatar is crisis and you're seriously asking that. Any PC gamer will tell you stories about what it took to run that game at 60 or above FPS. It was benchmark at the time.

<< LINK REMOVED >>60 FPS is so much better than trying to play a game at 30 fps. If you don't agree it can only be because you have not experianced the difference first hand.. or your eyes are broken. ... bandwagon... no.. gaming at 60 FPS is more important than running the same game with better graphics at 30 FPS any time all the time.. always. period.

<< LINK REMOVED >>Easy, you know by comparing your specs to the recommended requirements. Otherwise if the recommended requirements are known to be inaccurate (Like they are for this game.), then you just go online, and do more research.

<< LINK REMOVED >>This has to be most funny comment I read in years

"How in the hell do you know if someone's PC can run it a 60 FPS" .?

Wow just wow , ignorance at it's best .

Consoles run in 30 FPS , PC runs in 60 or above . End of story .

PC pirates is a problem but it's something that can't really be stopped. PC is an open platform so piracy comes with it.

<< LINK REMOVED >> The only games that successful temporarily delayed pirated versions of them for a few weeks/months after release were the always online DRM schemes of Diablo III and SimCity, which also significantly affected legitimate customers and received massive fan backlash/loss of company goodwill.

I'll take CD Projekt Red's new DRM free approach to customers any day.

It may not apply to video games too. Do cite an article for video games instead of for music. ;)

Dont confuse drm with piracy prevention.

Digital rights management is just that, a system which manages your digitally licensed software

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >>The Xbox 360 and PS3 are pretty easy to pirate for as well, either a little software, or hardware modding, and your good to go. All it takes is a Google search, or a quick stop to the Pirate Bay to find the means to do so. Hell, GTAV was available on the Pirate Bay before release day, and the number of seeding on it was mind-boggling to say the least.

You may want to know that Diegoctba has counter/anti-hipster tendencies - apparently he/she thinks that it's cool to take on the corporations' side because it's cool for others to have anti-corporate streaks.

We've been down this rabbit hole before with DRM, and developers should know better by now. Hopefully it's a bug, but the description doesn't look too promising.
