Marvel Movies Deadpool 3, Captain America 4, Thunderbolts, And Blade Delayed

Marvel Studios has announced a number of delays for its upcoming movie slate, led by Deadpool 3 slipping from May 3, 2024 to July 26, 2024, according to Variety.

Marvel also delayed Captain America: Brave New World, which was slated for July 26, 2024 and is now coming to theaters on February 14, 2025. The Thunderbolts movie is shifting from December 20, 2024 to July 25, 2025, with the Blade film moving from February 15, 2025 to November 7, 2025.

Outside of Marvel movies, Disney delayed the next Lion King movie, Mufasa, from July 5, 2024 to December 20, 2024. Disney also had unannounced movies on the schedule for July 25, 2025 and November 7, 2025, and those dates have now been vacated.

Given all these delays, Deadpool 3 is now the only Marvel Studios movie on schedule for release in 2024. Marvel normally releases at least two Marvel films per year. Things can always change, but for now, Deadpool 3 is the only Marvel movie coming to the big screen in 2024.

Also of note, Variety reported that Brave New World was already finished with principal photography, but it's normal for films to require additional filming for any number of reasons. Thunderbolts and Blade have not yet begun production. Deadpool 3, meanwhile, was filming prior to the onset of the Hollywood strikes, and is now set to get back up and running.

In other news, actor Ryan Reynolds recently confirmed that Deadpool 3 will feature a cameo by none other than Dogpool.

In addition to Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Morena Baccarin and Stefan Kapicic are coming back to reprise their characters, Vanessa and Colossus, respectively. Jennifer Garner returns as Elektra. In terms of new additions to the cast, Emma Corrin (The Crown) and Matthew Macfadyen (Succession) are joining Deadpool 3 in new roles. Taylor Swift might be in the movie, too.

Shawn Levy, who directed Reynolds in the movie Free Guy, is directing Deadpool 3. Series writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese are coming back to write the script with Zeb Wells (Robot Chicken).

As for the SAG-AFTRA strike, the labor union and Hollywood studios have reached a tentative agreement to end the strike, and it should become official soon. The writers' union, WGA, ended its own strike in September.
