Lost Planet 3 delayed again

Capcom pushes back Xbox 360, PS3, and PC action game to August 27 in North America.

Lost Planet 3 has been delayed again. Capcom announced today that the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC action shooter is now expected August 27 in North America and August 30 in Europe.

No Caption Provided

Previously, Lost Planet 3 was expected to ship June 25. No rationale for today's delay was provided.

Lost Planet 3 was announced in April 2012 with an "early 2013" release window, before being pushed to June 25.

Unlike its predecessors, Lost Planet 3 is being developed in the West by Spark Unlimited as opposed to internally at Capcom Japan.

That's maybe not a bad thing. I didn't even know the game was in development.

@spidermonkeyENT I'd say definitely play the first one. The second one isn't worth it.

I wanted this game until I saw that Spark Unlimited was developing it. They have never made a game that wasn't terrible, and I have reasonably low standards (I love Aliens: Colonial Marines, the Dynasty Warriors games, etc.).

Turning Point: Fall of Liberty and Legendary were on their resume, and Capcom thought this was a wise move? At best, we'll get a polished but short title, and at worst we'll get something with a moderate amount of content that is low quality or generic. I liked the first two LP games, particularly the second one.

Capcom has made an awful lot of bad decisions over the past couple of years, and I hope this isn't one of them (but still think it will be). I am willing to give it a chance though.

@MetaMods @TheCyborgNinja That's exactly it. People look at how Ninja Theory made an unpopular Devil May Cry game, and Spark is a worse developer than they are, by a lot.

Looks decent. Nothing more, nothing less. Will wait until $20 unless it's somehow a unique shooter.

This game looks uninteresting. I don't think even the extra development time will save it.

This game looks lame. Spark Unlimited makes garbage ass games anyways, so you already know what to expect.

@lhughey Are you high or something? I have played the first Lost Planet recently and was surprised by its quite unique, tactical and ruthlessly challenging action.

Today everyone raves about Dark Souls action - while Lost Planet offered mostly the same on its higher difficulty settings, six years ago.

Anyway. Seeing that the original Lost Planet is a lot better than many ignorant people made it to be, I will give Lost Planet 2 a try too.

Too bad Lost Planet 3 isn't made by Capcom itself. Spark Unlimited is probably going to remove most of the things which made the original Lost Planet so unique.

@hochstreck @lhughey LP 2 was pretty fun overall, it has a section or two that may having you pulling your hair but me and my boy still laugh about it and we're both looking forward to 3. even with the faults we played LP 2 to the end, give it a shot, it may not stand up but I bet you could find it pretty cheap.

@lhughey I respectfully disagree, the first had a couple boss issues but I quite liked it overall and had a blast with the second one, though the train got pretty stupid. Love this series like I love Army of two, good times with my boys two-up.

I have a feeling this game won't be so great since Spark Unlimited is behind it. I thought Lost Planet was alright, I loved the second game, though...I'm probably one of the very few on this site who enjoyed the second game.

Me and my two brothers played it... alot. I know it isn't that great of a game, but it had a fun mix of coop and character customization.

I loved the first LP, especially the multiplayer, its quite sad that Capcom decided to let Spark Unlimited even touch the 3rd in the series.

1.5 million total units. That's what Lost Planet 2 sold. And that is with a massive marketing push.

Doesn't Capcom get it? The IP needs a rest. First one was okay, but I didn't even finish it. Then I didn't even finish the second one's demo. I don't think I'm alone in this.

Um, I can think of a bunch of other IPs that need to rest due to getting a annual release. Its been 3 years since the last Lost Planet. The timing seems on point for a sequel.

@Double_Wide Sales dictate need. I'd say 1.5m units with a massive marketing push means 3 years might be too soon.

I'm thinking a reboot with a new gen of consoles capable of a lot more particle effects (aka snow) would have been the perfect timing.

@PixelAddict @redrabbit65 LP had one section that caused me great consternation but I stuck with it and felt a great sense of accomplishment that i did. Sometimes the broken, or near broken, areas in a game give you the most satisfaction when you push through them. LP was one of the few that i probably would have bailed on in normal circumstances but didn't and I think back fondly because of that. I always found the controls very nice as well, loved the zip line, harvesting the heat left when you blasted creatures, lots of neat ideas in LP.

@redrabbit65 You just described my experience with the first LP. I, too, bought my 360 post-launch, and LP was the first game I bought. And then I didn't finish it.

If it's drool-worthy, I'll buy LP3. Next gen, not this.

@PixelAddict @Double_Wide I remember the first LP being a huge reason I drooled over the 360 when it first came out I thought the game really looked "next gen" and it was one of the first games I got my hands on a few years later when i finally shelled out for the 360. It's a third person shooter, no dearth of demand for shooters, there's always a market for a kick-ass game.

@Double_Wide We're just talking about videogames, true, but there is a lot of money tied up in a title such as the next Lost Planet.

You mentioned how there are other IPs that need a rest, which is an admission that gaming fatigue exists. Once gamers get too tired of a plot/action/boxart they drift over to the new and shiny aisle.

The graphical ooo-aaaah was the reason the first Lost Planet was promising and well-received. Not a good sign that folks got tired of the IP by the second release of the franchise.

So, I think having a prequel release with the new hardware would be a brilliant move. Show off what a bunch more RAM and graphics card capabilities can do.

I'm not saying erase, I'm saying reinvent. Revitalize. Make people say oooo-aaaah again and justify their purchase of the new system(s) and that shiny plasma/lcd.

@PixelAddict @Double_Wide

Need? LOL...c'mon, man. We're just talking about video games here. That's not too bad of a number anyway...there have been worst.

Reboot? That suggestion is everything that's wrong with the current generation. People would rather erase what they've previously done then to actually figure out away to redeem it.

I'll agree that LP2 did deviate a bit from the original game but it by far wasn't bad enough to kill the series were it is. I think Capcom is doing a good thing by creating a prequal to the first game. It doesn't look like its going to be much like LP2...more straight forward like the first game.
