Left Behind Games praises support

Publisher of Christian-themed RTS says "numerous ministries" have endorsed its game; Left Behind author calls it "the greatest invention...to reach this generation."

"The greatest invention...to reach this generation."

The PC game Left Behind: Eternal Forces has been in the gaming headlines since just before its release--but unfortunately not for stellar gameplay or sales success. Left Behind, published by Left Behind Games, is a Christian-themed real-time strategy game for the PC, based on the popular novels of the same name written by authors Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins.

Several groups, including Christian and Islamic organizations, have slammed the game for promoting intolerance and violence against different faiths. However, in December, Left Behind Games CEO Troy Lyndon told GameSpot, "The reality is that everyone who is throwing stones, they literally have never played the game because literally 100 percent of their claims are bogus."

Lyndon's company released a statement today saying the Left Behind has "received accolades from a large coalition of church and ministry leaders." The statement points out that "numerous ministries," such as Focus on the Family, Women of Faith, Promise Keepers, and Concerned Women for America, have endorsed the game.

But the biggest praise came from LaHaye, who said, "This game is the greatest invention developed in my lifetime to reach this generation."

Left Behind Games is currently working on a Left Behind expansion pack and full-fledged sequel. For more information, read GameSpot's previous coverage.

I like South Park Colorado's Mr. Garrison's take on evolution. He provides the most detailed explanation of how it all started. He answers all questions.

Wow, the ol' evolution debate still goes on eh? Anyway, my main problem with the is that its not a good game. The opening "cinematics" are very low quality, the in-game graphics are mediocre, and what I've seen of the gameplay is a, while somewhat unique, not very good derivitive of your basic RTS formula. Also the little phrases the people say range from funny (in the sense that they actually used such a phrase like the construction guy being like "Where's my toolbelt?!") to a sad funny (Like the constant "Praise the Lord!") to slap your forehead asking "What were they thinking?" (Such as the praise leader who exclaims "HALLELEUJAH!!" like James Brown in "The Blues Brothers") I'm honestly troubled by Tim LaHaye saying, "This game is the greatest invention developed in my lifetime to reach this generation." Honestly, I don't know what I would do if someone said this game inspired them to become a Christian. I think I would be utterly speechless for a minute and then exclaim "HOW?!?!!!"

think its possible that we all the sudden got a mutation in the monkey gene, then a human was born out of a monkey, then after a while with that human and the monkeys was reproducing, then there was alot of humans around but the the genes changed just enought with the new off spring humans that they couldent reproduce with the monkeys anymore so they reproduced by them selfs. this could be why we are around and monkeys are still around.

ithebigc, you got it right. Evolution happens on a micro scale and cannot be proven to have ever happened on a large scale. Dogs evolve, that is why there are so many different species (same with other animals). But when can it ever be shown that a dog was not a dog or will not be a dog. If evolution were true there would be tons of "missing links" like half monkey half human (or any other hybrid type things). And if we evolved from monkeys why would monkeys still be around? We evolved away from them for a reason, to better ourselves (so science says...) and yet they are still here...?

BlakeBroussard, Christianity really is about love, and not hate and intolerance. Now, twisted religion (see above game) is different. and yes, I agree. I'm a Christian, and I say that volution does exist. Well, microevolution at least. (Not macro). It isn't that far fetched to say that yes, God created all the known species of animals on this planet, but yes, these said animals can evolve.

I absolutely hate when people argue with real science. I believe in God, I believe in evolution, and I don't believe evolution disproves God. However, people need to look at facts and not allow themselves to be blinded by religion. Evolution is real and that is a fact. Give me a scientist that doesn't believe in evolution and I'm sure you'll be giving me a scientist who has not only gotten his degree at Jerry Falwell's university but also a scientist who has no credibility among his or her peers. As for this game... its just disgusting. To me it embodies everything wrong with religion. Religion should be about love, not hate and intolerance... the sad thing is for thousands of years "religious" people have tried to have it both ways in that respect. Guys like Pat Robertson can be considered men of God when they talk about loving thy fellow man and then in the next breath advocate assasination... I just don't get it. Radical Christians like Robertson, Falwell, and the people behind this game aren't much better than guys like Osama bin Laden when it comes to their ideaology of hate.

As a Christian, I loved the idea of this game. However, as a tasteful gamer... I can't bring myself to buy a product which, though well thought-out, was so poorly executed. I don't spend my money to continue the support of developers who aren't putting forth enough effort, or don't take the time to think about he playability of (or actually play) their own game. I wish that a game on Christian beliefs could be as well-executed as other games on the market. (Shoot, I might even play something based on Jewish beliefs, since mine once stemmed from that. Old Testament wars were pretty harsh.) It seems that I'll have to keep waiting on it though. And Mac24, props to the simultaneous belief in Christianity and evolution. I don't completely side with one or the other, but I accept both. It's just not common to hear someone with a dual Christianity/Evolutionism belief, and is really cool to find someone who does.

Hmm, Kodai needs to pay attention to history classes - citing the times of Jesus and of Ramses II makes a poor argument, as they lived probably over two thousand years later than the ones whose remains are in question. If you understood the Biblical timeline, you'd know that God's curse in Eden, c. 6000-7000 years ago, was the origin of corruption in DNA and the genepool. If perfect world existed, birth defects would not. Thus, the further back in time we go towards the point of the curse, the purer we can expect the genepool, which would have effects on health. But I'm not really here to carry on Creation/Evolution debate! Personally I dislike the entire Left Behind franchise very much, mostly for its rank dogmatism on a subject which is difficult and fraught with intellectual pitfalls. The fact that LaHaye would call this game "the greatest invention" shows how obsessed he is with what he started. Would he would take his blinders off and reach out to his fellow man in a less inconsistent and fantastical way.

God does not exist. Religion is used solely for control. "Hey, if you obey every word I say for your entire life, then I promise you will go to paradise and get everything you really want". That's plausable!

Irrelevent net people have opinions on religion, listen up God! Look, people make crappy games all the time for all sorts of reasons. If this has a market, nothing wrong with making it. If DOA Xtreme and Santa Bowling and WTF and Killer 7 pass for videogames, so does this. There's no statute of limitations on what can be made just who's willing to sell it, so just dont buy it dumbasses. Simple.

7_armageddon_7 The "personal" WAS to imply and reinforce my position that I'm not out to convince or preach to anyone, but just to state my own (key word: own) opinion, and not make a claim. Funny you talked about "critical mind", and yet didn't comprehend what I was truly saying. Please try to READ BETWEEN THE LINES!! Repeat if necessary. I wish I could debate with you, but like with Bond22's case, this is not the proper website to do so. Expect this as my first and last response to you.

bond22 Another thing how can you believe in God and believe in Evolution? There are so many things that disprove Evolution its hilarious. Ok Q: Why did people have bigger skulls back ? A: They lived longer back then. It has absolutely nothing to do with them evloving! _________________________________________________________ This is why i have no faith in religion. You are the perfect example why i think being apart of any type of religion like christianity, islam, or judism is just a stupid waste of time. What god really wants is good action, good faith in him alone, and to defend people who cannot defend themselves. You making that stupid Q and A is just one reason why the church is so full of themselves. Go watch the Discovery Science Channel or something. Maybe pay attention in science or history class. Because u saying that is the single most ... thing i have ever heard. They lived short lives back then, most of them living to 30-40 becasue either they worked themselves to death or they died of a disease which they could not cure. so in conclusion, Evolution happened weather u like it or not, there was never no flood that covered the entire earth, there was never a bush that spoke to moses, and people over exaggerated what actualy happened.

"That statement may not conform completely to science, but just my personal (key term: personal) belief, nothing else." - mac24 What? Because it's personal does not mean no one can judge such a claim; everyone is supposed to have a critical mind here. "I'm a Catholic too, and an anthropology major, so naturally I do believe in evolution." - mac24 ? There are scientists out there who do not support the of evolution. Just because you specialize in the study of anthropology does not mean you have to "naturally" believe in evolution.
Ok Q: Why did people have bigger skulls back ? A: They lived longer back then. It has absolutely nothing to do with them evloving!
Umm, no they didn't. In the supposed time of Jesus, most people died around the age of 35-40. We can prove this quite easily through studying skeletons from the time and comparing them to modern people. Ramses II was actually a grand exception, and people thought he was immortal when he reached 90! And pay attention in biology class, sounds like you're flunking

Bond22 Simple. I believe that evolution happened, but somehow "someone" guided it to happen (I say "someone" as not to offend anyone and look like proselytizing, therefore making me a hypocrite). That statement may not conform completely to science, but just my personal (key term: personal) belief, nothing else. To put it simply, I don't believe in the literal interpretation of the Bible. Oh, another thing, don't try to debate this issue with me, since this website is not the place to do so (but a perfect place to piss off PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360 fanboys..heh,heh), so expect this as my first and last response to you.

It's a crap game, taking crap from people for reasons not considering the awfulness of the game. Religion and media (Lets see Da Vinci Code, HArry Potter, and now this?)

Focus on the Family alone should tell us that by "various ministries" they mean "various whack-job extremist ministries"...they've had things like the Bible Game before and games where you are trying to escape from hell. The later I consider to have been a scare-tactic on the part of christian groups, but nothing this heinous and ridiculous. Based upon your enemies in this game the suggestion is that Jews are promiscuous demon-worshippers who need to be stopped at all costs. Coincidentally enough, or perhaps not coincidentally that is the same position Pat Robertson, the man who called for us to assassinate world leaders and blamed Katrina upon the "sinfulness of the people of New Orleans" and who forms business relationships with African dictators.

Far as I can tell it seems that a lot of people bash this game just because it a Christian game who cares if it gets a low score the fact of the matter is the christian values that are used to reach out to other generations is the issue. BelmontMaster he is not obsessed with his religion ok he just realizes the true version of Christianity not how it is viewed today being corrupt. You think Catholicism is perfect bowing to idiols and hailing your Marys this we not let you enter the kingdom of God is a true relationship with God and putting everything in your life to God this is what will get you to heaven. Christian for 9 nine straight years. I hope and pray that you look peruse through what I have written carefully and take to heart what hits you. Feel free to send me messages if you would like to know more about God.

BelmontMaster: That WAS meant to be a satire to the Christian inspired games (and their odd forays), NOT promoting them. You obviously didn't get the "going back in time" and "rounding up the neanderthals" part. If I were truly a Christian fanatic, Neanderthals didn't exist, and therefore, you can't go back in time and kill them. READ BETWEEN THE LINES!! Hate to say this, but joke's on you!! P.S. I'm a Catholic too, and an anthropology major, so naturally I do believe in evolution.

Future games: A Terminator-esque mission to go back in time and assassinate Darwin. Future expansion packs will include rounding up all Neanderthals and nuke vaporizing their remains so scientists in the future won't be able to discredit the Creation story. And ooh, a Christian version of Guitar Hero, where demonic rock songs get replaced with Ned Flander-style Christian songs!! March on, Christian soldiers!!

sure wish they could have done a better job on it... but hey, people PLEASE give them props for pulling a nintendo here and reaching out into a vast, untapped market. Even FOX has got a whiff of the financial implications of marketing to a christian audience... they created FoxFaith films specifically for reaching the christian audience, of which I am one. If they(the makers of this game) were to do a real good job on one of their games, it could be something worth all kinds of $$$$$$$$$. I wish them luck, along with "better luck next time".
