L.A. Noire PC-bound this fall, ships 4 million units

Rockstar's open-world detective game will be solving cases on Windows systems by the end of the year; will have 3D support, keyboard remapping, gamepad functionality.

Rockstar Games answered many gamers' prayers today by announcing that L.A. Noire is coming to the PC this fall. Originally announced as a PlayStation 3 exclusive in 2005, the open-world crime-solving game has already proven a hit on Sony's console and the Xbox 360, shipping 4 million units worldwide to date. Since its mid-May release, the open-world game has sold nearly 900,000 copies domestically on both platforms, enough to make it the top domestic release for that month.

L.A. Noire will soon be solving cases on the PC.
L.A. Noire will soon be solving cases on the PC.

Though the original was developed by Australian studio Team Bondi, the PC edition of L.A. Noire is being ported over by Rockstar Leeds. According to Rockstar Games, the Windows version of the game "will run on a wide range of PCs" and support both keyboard remapping and gamepads. The PC edition will also sport 3D graphics, something not found on the console editions of the game. Rockstar did not specify what type of 3D the game will support.

L.A. Noire follows Cole Phelps, a detective entangled in a violent web of vice, corruption, and crime in 1947 Los Angeles. Players jump into the seedy underworld of the metropolis and are tasked with solving a series of murders and other criminal offenses, ranging from arson and drug trafficking to racketeering.

L.A. Noire is also notable for its use of the new facial animation system called MotionScan, which captured the performances of real-life actors. In the game, players can read the faces of characters during questioning to determine if they are lying or not, thereby advancing the storyline.

This game should have been original released for the PC along with its console counter parts. Besides the enhanced graphics it will have, etc.......the adventure games genre in general have also been a staple of PC gaming. So there was no reason for Rockstar to hold out on this.

P.S. Anyone remember the good old days when many-a PC game was ported to a console and sucked? Now it's the other way around...

I got a Xbox 360 I use for gaming... but I'm spending a good £1000+ on building an i5 2500k system with a duel 560ti SLI set up. The reason being, I'm liking the way DX11 is looking and more and more games are supporting it. I could wait for next gen Xbox or Playstation... or I could have next-gen graphics now. I'll hold of getting the 360 version of this. If they say the PC version supports DX11 I'll get that instead. If it's a straight DX9 port I'll pick it up for 360. Should be pretty cheap by then.

so LA Noire comes to PC but..............Red Dead Repemption doesnt? You kidding? I might just go and replay Grand theft auto 3 lol. Actually PC gaming has been pretty damn awesome lately. We have a full FIFA console port to PC now, with the same graphics. We have the Witcher 2 and Amnesia (SCARIER than DEAD SPACE). We have consoel ports of NBA 2K11 and Street fighter 4 arcade edition with 39 characters. Weve got a new Race 07 2010 expansion pack now on STEAM. So race 07 now covers 4 years of the world touring cars. Weve got the whole grand theft auto series on STEAM. Weve got Starcraft 2, Weve got Shogun total war 2 and 3 epic games of STALKER. We have Arma 2. Weve got F1 2011 coming out. Things are looking better than you think for PC gamers :):). Thats not even mentioning DirectX11.

I'll sit it on my invisible shelf next to my copy of Red Dead Redemption. I used to care about Rockstar then i realized they ran out of idea's with Grand Theft Auto. This game uses the GTA 4 engine and the only thing different besides the who wants to be a millionaire guessing game tagged on during interrogations is the facial animation system. That said if it's a choice on PC between this and the Witcher 2 you would be a flaming idiot to buy LA Noir. i played the PS3 version of GTA Noir and can say it was not only disapointingly short it was devoid of new design idea's. Game reviewers need to get their lips off of Rackstars hind end and demand more. I dont get how the same guys that will hate on a sports franchise for pallet swapping a football roster dont get on Rockstars case for re-skinning the GTA franchise for the umpteenth time.

@734M4n9 yeah okay. Hows that dwindling gaming library ya got there? Love waiting a decade for a game to release? Like getting DLC months after everyone else sport? lol Yeah, "I'm" the one who's butthurt  (The sad part is...deep down, you know I'm right...and oh yeah, what goes around comes around ;))

Doubt this will appear with the problems between Rockstar and Team Bondi. 4 million units sold for L.A. Noire, of course, does not put them into profit. So they need the PC version to make up the numbers. To be honest, I don't think they will. The game is too short, with too little gameplay and too much hand-holding for PC gamers. They'll be playing Skyrim, or The Witcher 2 console release or PC expansion. Then there's Risen 2, another deep, non hand-holding, old school cRPG! They'll be 200,000 or so Rockstar fanboys and casual gamers that will buy it, but not the 2-3 million Rockstar need to get their investment back. .

Although in a way I just want to shoot my partner in this game, or kill one civilian using a pistol I did enjoy this game. It is also good to see that this is coming to PC because that means more than likely GTA V will be on PC. It is sad to see that RDR did not make the line up, but I guess you can't win every war. Not to mention that the game is made by different companies.

You guys should still be angry. This game is nothing compared to RDR, it's missing the longevity you would find in most Rockstar games. Keep up the complaints and maybe they will port that game.

Everyone who is so excited to play this better temper their enthusiasm... it's got an interesting storytelling technique and overall is very cinematic.... but the gameplay needs to improve a lot before it becomes a truly immersive game. Open world city... with nothing to do... spoon-fed clues to pixel hunting detectives... so it's supposed to be a thinking mans game.... without the thinking. Voice acting and motion capture are very very good. If that sounds amazing then buy away!

@EatShanna and it's amazing how many developers have screwed it up, I think a lot of them have forgotten the utility you get from 105+ buttons! hmmm, actually wouldn't mind a keyboard with some pressure sensative analogue keys - wink wink logitech and razor ;)

@159357159357882 Your logic is flawed, for example Bad Company wasn't on PC but they made the sequel for the PC too. Also, RDR is more like a spiritual successor to Red Dead Revolver, it's not a sequel.

People.Red dead redemption is a sequel to red dead revolver.Red dead is a console game.L. A. Noir is a new IP thats why it may come to pc(now its coming)GTA was always a console and PC game.Thats why even if GTA 5 launches it should be on PC (unless Micro$oft give money to rockstargames to make it an exclusive to xbox)
