Kevin Feige Doesn't Think People Will Get Tired Of Comic Book Movies

Marvel boss Kevin Feige said in a recent interview that with a catalog dating back to 1939 and franchise adaptation plans for movies through to the end of 2026, interest isn't likely to wane. Speaking to Jason E. Squire on The Movie Business Podcast, Feige says the superhero movies based on comics are in many ways just getting started, noting that the decades of Marvel history gives the studio a broad well to draw from.

"I've been at Marvel Studios for over 22 years, and most of us here at Marvel Studios have been around a decade or longer together," Feige said (via Variety). "From probably my second year at Marvel, people were asking, 'Well, how long is this going to last? Is this fad of comic book movies going to end?'"

Feige continued, "I didn't really understand the question. Because to me, it was akin to saying after Gone With The Wind, 'Well, how many more movies can be made off of novels? Do you think the audience will sour on movies being adapted from books?' You would never ask that because there's an inherent understanding among most people that a book can be anything. A novel can have any type of story whatsoever. So it all depends on what story you're translating. Non-comic readers don't understand that it’s the same thing in comics." Feige added that Marvel Studios is in a position where it can make "any type of movie that shares two things: the Marvel Studios logo above the title and a seed of an idea from our publishing history."

Last summer at Comic-Con, in a panel already packed with surprises, Feige announced the studio's plans for Phase 5 and Phase 6. Phases 4, 5, and 6 make up what is now being dubbed The Multiverse Saga, which follows Phase 1, 2, and 3's Infinity Saga.

Phase 5 is nearly upon us, with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania due to hit theaters on February 17. Phase 6, tentatively, is expected to get going with Deadpool 3--which was in development as of summer 2022, and is slated for a November 8, 2024 theatrical release.
