Microsoft will launch a huge digital game sale on Xbox Live later this month, the company has announced. It's called a "Countdown" sale, but it actually extends beyond the start of the new year.

The promotion runs December 22 through January 7, and Microsoft is calling it the "biggest digital game sale of the year" for the Xbox store.

More than 200 deals will be offered during the course of the sale, with discounts in the range of 40-60 percent. There will be daily and weekly deals, while Xbox Live Gold members will save the most.

Presumably these deals will be on Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Windows 10 PC games.

Microsoft isn't saying just yet which games will be marked down, only that people can expect "epic games" to be offered. Check back with GameSpot later this month to see the deals.

In other recent Xbox news, Microsoft has announced a temporary price cut for the Xbox One that brings its price down to $300 to match the same promotional offer for the PS4.
