Here's how Battlefield 4's homage to Battlefield 2142's Titan mode will work

Your objective is to destroy the enemy team's carrier before they destroy yours; mode will be available as part of Naval Strike DLC later this month.

If you enjoyed Battlefield 2142's epic Titan game mode, you were probably happy to learn last month that DICE was resurrecting it for Battlefield 4's upcoming Carrier Assault gametype. Now, DICE has provided more details about what the mode will offer in a new blog post on Battlelog.

"Carrier Assault is an homage to the Titan game mode of Battlefield 2142, but this time the all-out war rages in the South Chinese Sea, and your objective is to destroy the enemy team’s carrier before they infiltrate and destroy yours," DICE said.

How does a match of Carrier Assault work exactly? There are two ways to destroy the enemy carrier: you'll need to either fully control the map or assault the carrier using infantry. Rounds are divided into two stages, which begins with map control and ends with a full-scale carrier attack.

"Both teams start on their own carrier and race to control the missile launchers placed on the map, by capturing the control points near them," DICE said. "This will automatically launch missiles towards the enemy carrier throughout the round, eventually destroying its hull and making it open for infantry attacks."

After this happens (for one or both teams), the carrier assault portion of the mode begins. You can either drive a boat out to the carrier and enter it that way, or land on it from above using a parachute. Once you get inside, you'll need to destroy two M-COM stations. If you're successful doing that, or if your get the carrier's hull health down to 0 percent, you'll win.

Carrier Assault mode for Battlefield 4 will be available through the game's Naval Strike expansion, which launches later this month first for Battlefield Premium members. In addition to the Carrier Assault mode, Battlefield 4's Naval Strike DLC includes four new multiplayer maps, five new weapons, two gadgets, and a new hovercraft vehicle that can traverse both land and water.

I havent had any problems in BF4 (on PC) for a while until this last patch. Killcam showing the wrong person who killed me and a lack of a kill card in some games. Nothing effecting gameplay really.. just kind of annoying when i die and it says i was sniping by a guy on the other side of the map in a jet lol. But other than that... (i guess im lucky?) i havent had any issues on the PC. I cant wait for some Naval Strike

Well now, if DICE could include bots like in BF2 and not shackle players to their servers (no LAN games? SERIOUSLY?). Oh wait...but then how would they sell those ridiculous "early unlock" DLCs to let players access the content they already purchased?

If anyone is interested in seeing the new guns, gadgets and whatnot, check out JACKFRAGS youtube channel. He posted a video a few days ago using the new items from Naval Strike.

Why do I keep seeing this game listed as a Wii U Title when EA has said they are not making any Wii U games?

Its sad how battlefield 3 and bad company 2 were such great games and that DICE really was getting a good reputation now with all the issues of battlefield 4 this reputation has gone downhill dramatically. i know from first hand experience Ill be looking into any games produced from DICE from now on. They should worry more about the game and the fans then there deadlines and money

<< LINK REMOVED >>Steam has BC2 on sale for like $5 right now. I played the hell out of it on my Xbox... but since then i have built a beast of a PC so i bought it on that. Ive been playing BF4 a lot and it was a nice refreshment to go back and play some BC2... Those maps were truly amazing. Here's to the future of BF games and DICE going back to its roots and creating either a BC3 or an actual worthy sequel BF5.

@rebornblood DICE games were much better when they were exclusive to PC (BF2, BF2142), now they waste half their budget on single-player campaigns made solely for console users who don't have online subscriptions (so they're not buying a useless game). BC2 lacked a lot of features that previous games had, felt like a huge step back.

I'm still having problems with the standard game, so why the **** would i buy the DLC. its so frustrating because i love this game so much but is now unplayable to me due to constant crashing, loosing my multiplayer rank, not loading multiplayer games and loosing all campaign saved data. the only thing i can think of is deleting the game and re instlling. if this doesnt fix the problems then its getting traded in!!!!!

<< LINK REMOVED >> they are slowly making progress at fixing it. I was seriously pissed off about the turnout of BF4 just as much as you. But i would hang on to it if your a long time BF vet. DICE is just understaffed in the patching department it seems and thats why it seems like they arent doing anything about it. I have the PS3 version and its finally playable after the last patch....even though it made some other issues arise, but still its alot better coming from freezing every damn match to every once in awhile and the minor bugs that are still lingering or came from the latest patch I came tolerate since im able to play the game online now.

I'm pretty stoked about this. infiltrating the titans on foot back in the day was very intense and was challenging. I remember there being an award for jumping off the enemy titan and landing safely as it blows up. That was the first time I've ever seen a 'titan fall' LOL

But this game mode should be lots of fun if you can find a server with people who know what they are doing.

this mode requires insane amount of teamwork and dedication to teamwork, judging how Battlefield players play Battlefield today i bet half the team will be sitting with a sniper rifle trying to get 3000 meters headshots and get maybe one assist the entire round while the other half will struggle to get the objective.

<< LINK REMOVED >> VERY RARELY do you come across people that actually work together. People need to learn to wear their mics and communicate. I see this mode just being a giant clusterfuck. Its kinda like when playing obliteration and your squadmate or teammate is more worried about getting the bomb before you, rather then securing a ride out of there to win the match.....

<< LINK REMOVED >> well said wizzer.....there is hardly any to zero team work on games these days, especially when playing conquest or rush mode......you always get a few sniping half a mile away??? .... so frigging annoying, why don't players who like sniping go and play a death match game??

Sniping........ it's a wonder no one has ever a made a game so people can play at been the best sniper!

I still have random BSODs on my pc which is extremely irritating. Other than that, I dont face any other issue. But I noticed that flying vehicle issue few days ago.

I think the majority of unfortunate Battlefield 4 players would be happy with just a stable game at this point.

But hey, enjoy this beautiful distraction.

Too bad this will be popular for about a week and then people will get over the initial excitement and forget about it all together. I expect far less people to buy DLC for BF4 after its ridiculous launch (and issues to this day). How about we forget about cramming in all this DLC and instead spend the time on the next game, it would seem like we need it....

The sad problem about EA is they worry too much about getting things out the door faster than the developers under them can handle. I believe in a lot of great developing companies but the fact that they have to be pushed beyond their means before so decent quality assurance can be made makes the developers look bad when in fact it's the Publisher who is to blame. EA you need to slow down and relax. Let your developers do their jobs the right way.

I don't mean to sound like a jerk but it seems kind of weird to pay homage to arguably the most average(for its time) entry in the franchise.

Just imagine if they'd of waited an extra 6 months to release or even a year all that extra content and polish still tho it does sound awesome but i refuse to pay twice for a game especially when its published by EA.

I made an account just to post that everyone needs to watch that "Second Assault problems abound" video above.

Gamespot, why did you hide such a great video in this lone article? Give it it's own page!
