Oh Rexy, you're so sexy! It's Rex Manning Day, that special day in the 1995 film Empire Records in which washed-up pop star Rex Manning (Maxwell Caufield) did a special appearance at the record store and ended up helping feed into the chaos of the day. How better to mark such a special occasion than with a rewatch of the cult classic '90s movie?

If you don't have a DVD or VHS copy of the film you can dust off, never fear! You have digital options. Empire Records is available for rent and purchase at practically every digital movie retailer (Amazon Prime, Vudu, Apple TV, and even YouTube). However, if you're looking for a free way to check out the movie that helped launch the careers of Liv Tyler, Renée Zellweger, Ethan Embry, and more, you're in luck.

You can watch Empire Records for free (with ads) on Tubi. So just head over there to relive Warren robbing the store, the greatest block party of all time, and the eternal struggle between Lucas and Joe.

As for how April 8 ended up getting designated as Rex Manning day, Embry shared the tale on Twitter back in 2018. "The reason we picked April 8th as the day to have the powdered/coifed Rex Manning visit Empire is because Kurt was found on the 8th of April, the day the music of the '90s lost its mascot," he tweeted. Yes, that's a depressing story, but it's also oddly fitting for a movie about a record store in danger of going out of business and featuring a washed-up singer that most of the staff hates as a marquee attraction.

So say no more, mon amour. Start watching Empire Records now and enjoy this perfect little slice of the '90s.
