Halo: The Master Chief Collection Is Coming To PC, Each Game To Be Sold Separately Within The Package

Microsoft finally makes it official.

Confirming rumors, Microsoft officially announced Halo: The Master Chief Collection will be coming to PC later this year. Microsoft says the PC edition was "built specifically for the PC audience," but it remains to be seen what kind of PC-specific features are being implemented.

Microsoft did confirm that Halo: MCC for PC will contain campaign and multiplayer support, so it sounds very similar to the Xbox One edition. However, whether or not there is cross-play support is unknown. Also unclear is if people who already bought the Xbox One edition will get the PC edition at no cost like Xbox Play Anywhere titles.

Now Playing: Minecraft, Halo: Master Chief Collection Are Center Stage During Inside Xbox Stream - GS News Update

In a statement, 343 said it was "critical" to ensure that Halo: MCC for PC is a "first class" experience that doesn't suffer from the same kind of issues that the Xbox One edition did.

"The team is passionately committed to ensuring that all of the features, bells, and whistles expected in a modern PC title are included with MCC," 343 said.

To that end, Microsoft is adopting a unique release schedule for Halo: MCC on PC. Each title within the game will be released one by one. According to 343, this will allow the studio to ensure that "each one is right, while giving players a chance to jump in right away, rather than having to wait for the entire suite of games to be completed."

This process will begin with Halo: Reach with the ensuing releases following in chronological order--Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST (campaign only), and Halo 4.

"Halo: Reach, Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST (Campaign), and Halo 4 will each be available for individual purchase within MCC as they become available," reads a line from Microsoft's news release.

The wording there suggests that each title will be sold separately within the overall MCC package. A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed as much to GameSpot. "Each title will be available separately download and purchase. We'll have more to share in the future," a Microsoft representative told us.

For Halo: Reach specifically, players will get campaign, multiplayer, and Firefight, though it's not immediately clear if these are combined into one purchase or each sold separately.

Microsoft said it will share many more details about Halo: MCC in the time ahead, so keep checking back for more. 343 is working on the PC edition alongside outside studios Splash Damage and Ruffian.

Halo: MCC for PC will be available through the Microsoft Store and Steam, though pricing for each title was not announced. Whatever the case, 343 said each game within Halo: MCC for PC will "evolve and grow over time with community input."

The collection originally launched on Xbox One back in November 2014, and the initial launch did not go so well with the game suffering from serious server issues. Those problems have been fixed, and the game is in much better shape today, and Microsoft continues to update the title on a regular basis as it also works on the brand-new Halo game, Halo Infinite.

Halo: MCC on Xbox One includes Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary and Halo 2 Anniversary, as well as Halo 3 and Halo 4. Halo 3: ODST was later added to the package as a measure of thanks to the community for sticking with the game amid its issues.

Halo: MCC coming to PC is a big deal. While Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 were released on PC, subsequent titles never were. Microsoft previously acknowledged that fans want to see more Halo games for PC, and this move--along with Halo Infinite being confirmed for PC--seems to be a strong signal that Halo once again has a home outside of Xbox.

And available ONLY on Microsoft Store for Windows 10 !!! Please add that line in as well guys. Will it be available on Steam or GOG ?? Cause PC players would welcome that move by Microsoft / Xbox. It will also show how Phil Spencer and the 343 team are embracing flexibility in IP distribution keeping the Big Picture in mind -----> catering to fans / all PC gamers who wish to enjoy this famed series. BTW, I got the collection when I purchased the Xbox One vanilla 6 years ago so I get it for free which is good from Microsoft's side.

God dammit. We finally manage to get Melee out of EVO, and watch---they'll have Halo 2 or something now to replace it. Hopefully this is just a gift for fans and the older titles keep distant from reputable tournaments. #staycurrent

Will Halo:Reach have better performance? Like, improved weapon accuracy and less server lag in multiplayer?

I fell off from this series after Halo 2...Is the campaign from 3 and 4 playable in couch co-op? Because that's what I loved from the original...

@supamastergamer: Halo 3 is a natural extension of Halo 2 in every way. During the beta, people were calling it Halo 2.5. It kinda is. That's not a bad thing. It was the introduction of the Forge map editor and Theater Mode as well as the finality of the story that really made it "Halo 3". Do yourself a favor and "Finish the fight" at least.

Halo 4 is okay. It kind feels unnecessary if you've played them all in chronological order but like all great Halo game, it has fun couch co-ops. The story is okay and also ends with a level of finality. It's worth checking out if just can't get enough Halo, but I would play through all the Bungie games first. Reach,CE,2,ODST,3, and then 4 would be the order I would play these in, so for you I would check out ODST and then Halo 3. They didn't release in that order but in hindsight ODST feels like a great lead in to the big Halo 3 climax.

Of course who k owns how they will play on PC, but Master Chief Collection is in a great place right now on Xbox. Hope this helped.

@masscrack: So if as stated: 'Halo: MCC for PC is a "first class" experience', then we'll get to play co-op with a friend on PC via internet, without the need for Xbox Live Gold. Also an option for local multiplayer using two controllers and one display.

@blufalconultra: Well, Gears 1 was already released on PC at the same time as Xbox then they didn't release any more on PC. I think you can play Gears 4 on PC now as well.

Possibly a full release of Halo 5: Guardians could be on the table, depending on the sales numbers of this collection.

I played the hell out of the games on Xbox so, not sure if I want to buy it again for PC. Although I would love to see ODST's New Mombasa Map on PC. That map is beautiful at night. Microsoft started Play Anywhere and everyone said it would be the death of Xbox. It didn't happen. Now they are saying that because Halo MCC is coming to PC it will be the end of Xbox. Like everyone who doesn't want, doesn't know how or can't afford to build a gaming PC and buys consoles instead is going to suddenly start ditching consoles and building gaming rigs because Halo MCC is coming to PC. Jesus. Why do so many people fantasize about the death of Xbox? Seriously, get over it. Play Anywhere doesn't really work if you can only play on PC.

@bdrtfm: Thing is there is always going to be a market for Xbox. They are expanding their brand to platforms with an audience they either can't reach by themselves or they already have through Windows 10. The revenue they ultimately generate from all this means they can produce a console with the specs of a $1000 PC and sell it for $499.99. That is how they will stay relevant in the market. Everyone will know "Xbox" and its games and those looking for a way to play them without breaking the bank, building a device themselves, or dedicate a corner of their living space to, Microsoft provides an option. Usually a couple options.

@pongman75: LOL! Throttle body injected garbage. I have a 93 with the 350, which isn't bad, but it's definitely getting a crate motor.

That is smart. Gets more individually or since its on pc, price will go down soon enough to buy all bundled.

Anyhow, rest in peace Xbox. You were a great competitor in the gaming market.

@sakaixx: No, it wasn't. Maybe the first one, but after that meltdown business you couldn't really call Xbox a respectable brand. Their controllers still break after about a year, even the elites.

Better late than never..

Crossplay is probably out of the question. I doubt the Xbox players would enjoy a sudden surge of new PC players who slaugther them without effort.
