GTA 5 Online Adds A Wild New Mode Involving Giant Soccer Balls, Sniper Rifles, And More

Introducing GTA Online's newest mode, Football Deathrun, which looks like a lot of fun.

Grand Theft Auto V's multiplayer mode, GTA Online, just keeps expanding. The newest addition to the game is a fan-made multiplayer offering called "Football Deathrun."

Deathrun is a multiplayer mode inside GTA Online that, like its name suggests, challenges players to make it through a course without dying. The odds are often stacked against you, making it a challenging exercise but rewarding and fun at the same time.

The new Deathrun mode is called Football Deathrun. Set inside a football stadium, the mode challenges players to make it across the field, using massively oversized footballs and bowling balls for cover. The other team, meanwhile, is trying to kill you from the stands with sniper-rifles.

The goal for the team on the field is to make it the full length of the field to the opposite goal without being taken out by the snipers. Those who make it there successfully will find a "treasure trove of vehicles and weapons" that they can then use to get revenge on the snipers.

In a blog post, Rockstar offered up a tip for players on the sniping team: shoot the footballs at an angle so they spin and unveil players hiding behind them. For players on the ground, Rockstar said it recommends using flares to mask their movement.

The Football Deathrun mode was created by GTA Online player S-PxRxE, and it's available only on PS4. You can find the mode on Rockstar Social Club here, and then bookmark it for use when you log into GTA Online.

Despite having released years ago, GTA 5 and GTA Online continue to perform exceptionally well. Rockstar Games is trying to grow the game even further in 2021 with a standalone release of GTA Online for PS5 and Xbox Series X. GTA 5 itself is also coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X with its own next-generation edition that promises various improvements and enhancements.
