GTA Online Is Getting A Standalone Release In 2021 For PS5 And Xbox Series X
Rockstar continues to expand GTA Online with a new version for PS5 and Xbox Series X.
In addition to bringing Grand Theft Auto V to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, Rockstar Games is working on a new standalone version of GTA Online for next-generation systems.
Coming in the second half of 2021, the standalone version of GTA Online will be free for PlayStation 5 users for the first three months of its release. It's not clear what it will cost on Xbox Series X.
GTA Online for PS5 and Xbox Series X will get new updates and special content that is exclusive to the new versions of the game, but Rockstar has not shared any details on what this will be. The same thing happened the last time GTA Online made the jump to new platforms--currently, the PS4/Xbox One versions of GTA Online get new content and features not available in the PS3/Xbox 360 versions.
As a special bonus for PlayStation users, Rockstar is giving all PS Plus members on PS4 an allotment of $1 million GTA$ every month they play GTA Online until the game comes to PS5.
GTA Online is GTA V's multiplayer mode, and it's been a gigantic success for Rockstar. Many years after release, the mode continues to make lots of money from its microtransactions. The mode keeps setting records, and that's part of the reason why Rockstar is bringing it to next-gen consoles.
As for the GTA V base game, it's coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X with a "range of technical improvements, visual upgrades, and performance enhancements to take full advantage of the latest hardware, making the game more beautiful and more responsive than ever."
GTA V for PS5 and Xbox Series X was announced during Sony's PS5 reveal event, which contained a smorgasbord of details about the console and its games. The price and release date for the main console and the disc-free version , however, will be announced later.
