Gran Turismo 7 Probably Coming Before 2017, Will Have Better Crash Physics

Creator says that 2017 is too long to wait for the next installment.

Gran Turismo hasn't been in the news lately, but the next installment in the PlayStation-exclusive racing series may not be too far away.

Creator Kazunori Yamauchi, in an interview with the Italian games webstie SpazioGames, expressed hope that Gran Turismo 7 will come some time before 2017 for the PlayStation 4. When asked about a potential 2017 launch date, the creator responded, "People will not wait so much... We are talking about Gran Turismo, we must not wait so long."

Gran Turismo 6
Gran Turismo 6

Yamauchi also spoke about collisions and impact physics in Gran Turismo 7, stating that developer Polyphony is taking impact simulation very seriously. is working to solve many of the problems that other entries in the series have had with physics.

Finally, Yamauchi confirmed that GT 7 will feature more premium (or "detailed") cars, which have greater damage modeling and a higher level of detail on interiors, headlights, and other parts of the cars.

Yamauchi's statements further reiterate what he said in October 2014. At that point, he remarked that GT 7 is "going to be a game that matches the very era that we live in, in 2015 or 2016." It seems pretty clear that the game will come in the next year and a half--but since we still don't know much about the next installment, it's likely that we won't get to play Gran Turismo 7 until later in 2016.

Even though the game is still a ways off, we may see Gran Turismo 7 appear at the E3 conference next week. Keep an eye on GameSpot for all Gran Turismo news.

I once was a GT fan... I play & own all the GT games 1 2 3 4 5 & 6.. after watching so many topgear shows i try drifting the 458 Italian fully stock and I couldn't drift the stupid car like in the topgear TV show so i was like this cap is fake. I pick up Forza 4 and I was hook and blown away so yeah I a big time Forza fan now. Forza 5 by far the best and can't wait for Forza 6. Forza way more realistic no doubt about it. Haven't play project car but I sure that game is good.

@unknown-racer: So wait, you like Forza because its dumbed down and allows you to drift? lol. GT is a pure simulator game and Forza just doesnt compare in this regard.

Have you ever tried to drift in real life? Its very difficult...

if i see a single non premium car in this game (a car that was not designed to take full advantage of the ps4) and/or the game is littered with half finished upscales of older car models, i'm not buying it. the lazy upscales in gt5 were absolutely horrendous and ruined the presentation. hell, just borrow some of the car models from drive club... that will save tons of time right there. what a shame this game is so far from release. i wish sony would expand the pd team and give them the resources they need to get these games out sooner.

@Xristophoros: Honestly I dont think GT's problem is a lack of resources, but rather a lack in focus and the hubris of Yamauchi. If Sony gave him a larger staff and more money he probably would squander it on tire smoke physics, wind dynamics on flags and trees, and capturing the audio of every single car from the vantage point of the side mirrors.

Gran Turismo 5 had terrific braking mechanics, and certain courses really simulated the variable traction over sloped surfaces. I never felt anything of that detail from the Forza series. I think all simulation racing games nail down certain aspects of the driving experience very well, and so they all have some reason for existing...except for the terrible ones. GT is not one of the terrible ones, so ferrarimanf355 can likely suck chud-juice out of a worcestershire bottle

@RabbiSchmuley: Thank you!!! I take it most people on this forum dont have their license yet because GT physics are way better than Forza... Forza is on the arcady side and done that way to make people have more "fun" with it. GT is the real drivers game...

@Pelican170: You apparently haven't played a proper Forza title. As far as consoles go, Forza is a superior sim to GT. It's really not even close, except in a few details that GT does well. Overall though, Forza is more accurate to real life than GT is.

Meanwhile, Forza 6 is releasing this year, with Porsches confirmed to be in the lineup.

To think GT is relevant anymore is pathetic.

@ferrarimanf355: No offence, but I am pretty sure that you just don't notice it. I owned a 360 ( still do) and many games I played had frame drops. Whenever I mentioned it to someone, they said they haven't had any themselves and I thought that my console was simply broken or something. But no, I am pretty sure that most people just don't notice it themselves.

You know what this means. Releasing Holiday 2018 at the earliest. TTBOMK the Gran Turismo series has NEVER met a release date without at least one push-back. Look at their target release date and add 18 months and you'll be closer to reality.

All this for a game with 150 cars you actually want to drive and 1,200 filler vehicles that nobody outside of Japan cares about.

This just goes to show you that they have learned nothing from the problems people had with GT 5&6. Enough with the bs premium cars already, why not cut out 500 of the completely useless cars and focus on making 300-400 premium cars, sh!t 200 premium cars is enough. No one wants 10 variants of a corvette, no one wants cars you see every day like civics and jettas, no one wants random a$$ concept cars (leave that for DLC), and no one wants trucks/suvs. They should also lay off the damage physics and star charts and focus on the out dated AI or maybe invest some time into a simplified UI and a robust online ecosystem. I bet the game comes out holiday 2017.

PS Leave out the sh!t micro transactions.

Yamauchi seriously has to get his studio in a much more clearer direction with GT7. What is GT? A full on racing sim (iRacing) or a celebration of car culture (Forza). Because to me GT5 (worst game in the franchise) and GT6 felt lost in what it wanted to achieve apart from churn out GT academy (great initiative BTW) drivers every year. I just hope to dear god that we don't get the standard cars bull shit again, Its just unnecessary to have 12 million versions of the R33 Nissan Skyline.

It needs to have a lot more than better crash physics; it's been outclassed by the Forza series for years now (and I say that as a GT fan).

I'm actually really surprised that they haven't pulled the "Prologue" stunt like they did with GT5 a few years back. Way to milk an extra $40 from fans of the series a couple years before the release of the full game. The stupid thing became a greatest hits in less than a year.

"Finally, Yamauchi confirmed that GT 7 will feature more premium (or "detailed") cars, which have greater damage modeling and a higher level of detail on interiors, headlights, and other parts of the cars."

And this is where the series is a major failure to me. This says that most of the cars are still gonna reuse the same models from GT3. The fact that they take so long to do a half ass job boggles the mind. Yes Forza 5 lacked in cars and tracks but at least they started from scratch and created all new models instead of taking the easy road and using recycled assets from Forza 1. That right there already turns me off to Gran Turismo.

As much as I love gran turismo, I hate the wait. Its always years past due. By the time it comes out, the long over due waiting period sours, and makes me not want to buy the game any more.

I have literally pulled my pre-order on both the last two installments of the game because They pushed the dates back so many times.

Heck, I originally bought my fat 60-gig ps3 for gran turismo. I literally waited in line for the first wave of ps3s because supposably GT was coming out soon.

Got the demo for GT and was just over-flowing with hype... Then the years past by, and that anticipation turned into anger... To this day, I dont know anyone who has purchased the PS3 gran turismo games (5 or 6).

@bubba_1988: that i didnt know, thats good to hear that people did purchase the game, i always believed it was games like god of war or uncharted that topped copies sold. I dont much like those games as much as multiplayer games, but I bought them none the less. I tend to pre-order everything the gamestop guys tell me too, so my library is pretty extensive, but i dont like my pre-orders sitting there for too long. Its like i am giving these game companies free interest to invest.
