George R.R. Martin Won't Consider House Of The Dragon Cameo Until He's Done With The Book

Author George R.R. Martin has commented on whether or not he will have a cameo in the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel TV series, House of the Dragon. Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con recently, Martin said he will not appear in the show until he finishes the next book, The Winds of Winter, and even then, he might not.

"You may not know this but there's this book I's writing and it's a little late," he said (via IGN). "So I won't be doing any acting until I finish and deliver that book, and if the show is still running then, then maybe."

House of the Dragon has only been picked up for one season, and presumably all the episodes are done and ready, so Martin wouldn't show up in a cameo until Season 2 at the soonest (if the show gets renewed).

Martin had a cameo in the first unaired pilot for Game of Thrones. Martin spoke about this, sharing more insight on what his role was supposed to be before it was cut.

"I was also supposed to be a severed head. In the scene where Joffrey shows Sansa the heads one was supposed to be mine. Then they found out how expensive it was to make a severed head so they just bought a box of severed heads," he said. "One of them turned out to be George W. Bush, and they got in a lot of trouble. Who knows? Maybe I can yet become a severed head."

This unaired Game of Thrones pilot also featured a different actress, Tamzin Merchant, in the role of Daenerys Targaryen, a part that eventually went to Emilia Clarke.

Martin previously admitted that The Winds of Winter is "late." He also acknowledged that fans are eagerly awaiting the next novel, and spoke to the general state of negativity and "viciousness" online.

"I get [that] Winds of Winter, the sixth book is late," Martin said. "I can get a hundred good comments, but there's still gonna be a few fans out there who are gonna remind me of it on my blog or whatever. I say, 'Happy Thanksgiving!' And they say, 'Never mind Thanksgiving, where's the book?!'"

There is no word on when The Winds of Winter will be ready, but Martin continues to work on it and make progress. He recently spoke about how his books won't end the same way as the series, and this will upset fans, he said.

House of the Dragon premieres on August 21. 12 days later, Amazon's The Lord of the Rings TV show, The Rings of Power, makes its debut.
