The Gaming Community Expo (GCX) has added well-known streamer, Benjamin "DrLupo" Lupo, as a board member. The Florida-based event won't have a physical setup this year, but will go ahead with online fundraising and a digital showcase later this summer.

A video was released on the official GCX Twitter account earlier this week, narrated by Lupo himself. It confirmed that he would be joining the event's board and working closely with the Rare Drop organizing team on the GCX experience in the future.

Lupo acknowledged that while the event would not be going ahead with its in-person element this year, there was still plenty of fundraising to be carried out for the St. Jude Childen's Research Hospital as part of the replacement festivities that had been arranged.

This year, GCX will take the form of a charity marathon across various streaming platforms. June 5 to 7 will see streamers take to Facebook Gaming, June 12 to 14 will be Mixer's time to shine, and the Twitch charity marathon will close out the event from June 14 to 21.

Lupo's previous involvement with the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is well-documented; Inven reported on the streamer raising $2.3 million with a 24-hour #BuildAgainstCancer livestream in December last year. It looks like GCX's partnership with the hospital will continue this year, with proceeds from its charity marathon going towards their efforts to treat childhood cancer and pediatric diseases. Those who want to donate independently to the hospital can do so via its website.
