Fortnite: NBA Star Almost Eliminated When 1-Year-Old Daughter Interrupts

That was close.

Seemingly everyone is playing Fortnite these days, and that includes professional athletes. Gordon Hayward of the Boston Celtics caught wind of the phenomenon recently, and during a recent stream, someone made a surprise appearance that almost got him killed (in the game). As you can see in the video below, Hayward was in the middle of a Fortnite match when his wife plopped their 1-year-old daughter Charlotte into his lap. Thankfully for Hayward, he still got the kill, which saved him from the embarrassment of finishing 90th.

Hayward's wife Robyn posted a video on Instagram (see it below) showing baby Charlotte in Gordon's lap, seemingly engrossed by Fortnite--and at one point getting too close to the keyboard. Hayward apparently only just started playing Fortnite this week.

Hayward has been playing games for a long time, and one of his favourites is League of Legends. The NBA standout came to gaming's defense in 2015 when a radio personality blasted video games as only appealing to basement-dwelling, Hot Pocket-eating, virgins.

Earlier this month, Fortnite received another jolt in popularity after rapper Drake played the game with a popular Twitch streamer. Another rapper, Travis Scott, along with Pittsburgh Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster joined this stream as well. The stream broke a Twitch record with more than 600,000 concurrent viewers.

Hayward suffered a gruesome, season-ending ankle injury just minutes into his first game with the Celtics last October. He is now on the road to recovery, but is not expected to play again until next season.
