Final Xbox Games With Gold Free Games Revealed For August 2023

The program will end next month, replaced by Xbox Game Pass Core.

It's the end of the road next month for Xbox Games with Gold. So it's a bit fitting that one of the two titles on the way in August for the service is a racing game called Inertial Drift. Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can also look forward to Blue Fire.

Blue Fire is an adventure game similar to The Legend of Zelda that also takes inspiration from Hollow Knight and From Software's Souls series. The game apparently even features dungeons where new abilities can be found. For more, check out GameSpot's Blue Fire review. Alessandro Barbosa wrote that "Blue Fire is unquestionably fun to move around in but is hampered by design decisions that hold back its free-form platforming."

Now Playing: Introducing Xbox Game Pass Core

Inertial Drift, meanwhile, is all about arcade racing with 16 cars and 20 tracks. The game is optimized for Xbox Series X|S and offers online multiplayer, according to Microsoft. All of this takes place under a retro future 1990s setting.

Xbox Games With Gold For August 2023

  • Blue Fire (August 1-31)
  • Inertial Drift (August 1-31)

Keep in mind that the Xbox Games with Gold July lineup is still available, too. Darkwood is downloadable through the end of this month, while When the Past was Around stays on the service through August 15.

Starting September 14, Xbox Live Gold will be phased out in favor of Xbox Game Pass Core. That means no more Games with Gold lineups after August. Instead, the Core package--which costs the same as Gold, with current subscribers converted over to the new program--will feature a collection of 25-plus games. To start out, titles like Gears 5, Grounded, and Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice will be available.
