Far Cry 6 Gets First-Look Trailer And Release Date
A store listing spoiled the surprise, but we got our first real look at the next Far Cry for current and next-gen systems during Ubisoft Forward.
The studio saved Far Cry 6 for last during today's event, starting with a cinematic trailer. It showed Esposito as Anton Castillo showing his son a grenade and then handing it to him without the pin. He had his son carry it to the streets where people were rioting to show him an example of how to rule the country: clutching it tightly. It ended with a release date of February 18, 2021.
The title and some details originally leaked on a PlayStation Store listing. That leak outed the setting and platforms, as well as the involvement of actor Giancarlo Esposito as the despotic ruler President Anton Castillo. The game also includes Anthony Gonzalez (Coco) and features an intro from Patrick Clair, who's best known for the openings to both True Detective and Westworld. The company followed up with a teaser that both confirmed and cheekily acknowledged the leak.
Far Cry 6 includes a voiced protagonist with some twists. It's set in the fictional location of Yara, a tropical paradise, and sees Castillo attempting to "restore his country to its former glory while grooming his son Diego (Gonzalez) to follow in his footsteps."
Far Cry 6 is coming to PC (via the Epic Games Store and Uplay), PS4, Xbox One, and Stadia, as well as PS5 and Xbox Series X. It was one of several games shown during the Ubisoft event; though as announced just before, the publisher not address recent abuse allegations within the company.
