As part of Ubisoft's earnings report today for the year ended March 31, the French publisher officially confirmed Far Cry 4, the next entry in the action series. It's not much of a surprise, as Ubisoft told GameSpot last year at E3 2013 that a follow-up to Far Cry 3 was a sure-thing based on the sales of that game.

"The year's performance will be led by five games--Assassin’s Creed Unity, Far Cry 4, Just Dance, The Crew, and Watch Dogs," Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said in a statement. "Watch Dogs' pre-orders are at record levels and it is perfectly positioned to become the industry’s most successful new IP in history."

Far Cry 4 is coming to Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC on November 18. Today's confirmation of Far Cry 4 comes after a flurry of leaks. Here's how Ubisoft sets up the story for Far Cry 4:

"In Far Cry 4, players find themselves in Kyrat, a breathtaking, perilous and wild region of the Himalayas struggling under the regime of a despotic self-appointed king. Using a vast array of weapons, vehicles, and animals, players will write their own story across an exotic open-world landscape."

"Following the success of Far Cry 3, we wanted to take the franchise to the next level and create a game that will surprise players and exceed fans' expectations," executive producer Dan Hay said in a statement. "Given the unique setting, we feel Far Cry 4 will stand out as a top first-person shooter and we're eager to reveal more about the game in the coming months."

If you preorder Far Cry 4, you'll receive a limited edition version of the game that includes Hurk's Redemption, a three-part single-player mission pack featuring the character Hurk from Far Cry 3. You'll also receive Hurk's main weapon, the harpoon gun called The Impaler, if you preorder.

More information about Far Cry 4 will be shared during Ubisoft's E3 2014 briefing next month, to be held Monday June 9 at 3 p.m. PDT.

Ubisoft please just make sure to get true dynamic weather and day/night cycles this time. Having the day/night cycle move only when I moved or looked around was really immersion breaking. And the instant thunderstorms were terrible when they 'popped' in.

Far Cry 3 had brilliant gameplay attached to a terrible looking game. The screen tear was abysmal, the water had no reflections and the textures were worse than they were in FC2. Also was NPC audio recorded on a potato?

ima enjoy killing that guy

Guys google Clodovil and watch the similarities lmao

Ubisoft should get focused only for next-gen title. I wonder if Far Cry 4 will get downgrade graphic cause of cross-gen.

Can't wait, but whats with the picture of the fruit on the cover?

Avatar image for vadagar1

if GS spends half the time they do on deleting my comments and actually do something else we would have warp travel by now

and TBH farcry 3 was a shallow boring game

and... still no reason to buy a PS4.

PS1 played CDs, PS2 played DVDs, PS3 played BluRay discs, and the PS4 has a share button, and also plays all the new ^PS3^ games.

(Will see if The Division releases in 2014 for real.)

If I could do anything to influence this game, it'd be to fix the controls. Too many times I'd try to change weapons, would wind up selecting C4. I'd be trying to heal, and it either wouldn't respond, or he'd switch to the last gun used. Find a different button to heal, and make weapons switching easier.

So psyched! Loved every second of Farcry 3. Wasn't like anything I'd ever played before- I expect Farcry 4 will surprise me in the same way.

Every time I see screenshots of Far Cry I think of Jurassic Park. I wish a good developer like Ubisoft would take the Far Cry engine and build the best Jurassic Park videogame ever with it!

<< LINK REMOVED >> spielberg doesnt want a shooter based on jp I`P, he was already against that arcade game, well at least back then when his children were just kids.

I love Far Cry 3 and I can't wait to see FC4, but when I see that it is coming to 360 and PS3 as well as next gen it just makes me cringe. If current gen can run it, that means that the next gen versions are going to be the same game with some really pretty graphics. Just like every other multi-gen game. I can't wait for the Division btw.

I agree. Seeing that confirms that it won't be a true next gen title and will rely on upping the graphics and resolution to make it seem that way. Developers are scared to take that plunge because the publishers need to make all the money they can. We need to unshackle this and move into the true next gen.

I also agree that this is how PC gamers feel screwed. I used to be a hardcore PC gamer and now theres just no use cause all the games feel gimped. I remember in 2004 I was playing Joint Operations (Old school i know) and playing 150 player servers with tons of vehicles, and now we thing 64 player matches are the next gen!!! When did we take these steps back?

<< LINK REMOVED >> and now you know how pc users have felt with console games...

Avatar image for dannydopamine8

<< LINK REMOVED >> Yeah because they have to build the base structure of the game around the fact that it needs to run on slower hardware.. so yeah its an unfortunate hamper on its full glory

Avatar image for veryDERPY

HA, now wanna announce far cry 5 and 6 while you're at it? or maybe a spinoff perhaps?

now just don't make it like far drive 2

<< LINK REMOVED >> You missed the best one... FC 1 was a masterpiece, harder, meaner, scarier and with the best level design of all time of FPS games... Buuuuuuut don't expect a FC3 game... totally different.

Avatar image for jackzor123

Hopefully the story/main character isn't as weak and infuriating this time around... Far cry 3 was good but there were a few things that felt like they could've done more but just didn't bother

Avatar image for SlowMotionKarma

<< LINK REMOVED >> Yes. Very much this yes. I DESPISE the main character (and his male friends) from FC3. Love the gameplay, the exploration, the weapons, hunting, "leveling up"... that story though was crap.

I felt NO motivation to save his male friends. Then he *SPOILERS* pulls a 180 half way through the game, completely invalidating his motivation thus far, and continues down a path of selfish idiocy to the end. And don't get me started on the Vaas "boss battle"... such an amazing villain wasted.

I'm hoping for a better character/storyline in FC4.

in this moment a ps3 or xbox360 version of any game of "nextcurrent generation" is very possible, after all the graphics only need a downgrade to run in those machines, is like running this on pc with low or middle settings

I dunno why, but that pink man reminds me of Hannibal

Avatar image for stevezul

This is a goooooooooooood news. I really like the Farcry series especially Farcry 3 (and the hilarious Blood Dragon). Looks like it's gonna be another Farcry3 jungle settting but with more dense and intensity. Maybe, jumping down a 500meter waterfall?

By the way, that pink suited villain there really...caught my attention. He looks like Chef Wan, a legendary cook celebrity in my country. And yes, he's...a bit soft- mannered.
