"EA's player experience underscores E3 as the global launchpad for video game news, announcements, and excitement. As always, we continue to look forward to their contributions to E3 week and can't wait to play the games ourselves," ESA senior vice president for communications Rich Taylor said in a statement to GameSpot.

The original story is below.

Breaking years of tradition, publisher Electronic Arts has announced that it will not have a booth on the E3 2016 show floor this year, and its briefing will take place Sunday afternoon instead of later in the week.

EA's new event is called EA Play. The briefing itself will take place at Club Nokia at LA Live (right next door to the Los Angeles Convention Center) on Sunday, June 12 at 1 PM PST.

No Caption Provided

Last year, Bethesda held its first-ever E3 briefing on the Sunday before E3. That event took place in the evening, so if the Fallout company decides to hold another one this year at the same time (something it hasn't yet committed to doing), it appears there won't be a conflict with EA's.

Though EA won't have its regular booth in the Los Angeles Convention Center's South Hall, the FIFA and Battlefield publisher will still host private meetings, a representative told GameSpot.

"Our players are the driving force behind everything we do," EA said in a statement announcing EA Play.

EA has rented Club Nokia for June 12-14, during which people can stop in to try out new games, take in "live events," and purchase memorabilia, among other things. A similar event will held at London's The Mermaid on June 12.

An EA representative told GameSpot that tickets will need to be reserved in advance due to limited space, but tickets will indeed be free. On the EA Play website, EA said it will share more details in the coming months regarding how people can get tickets.

EA Play events, including the briefing, will also be streamed live. GameSpot will have more details on EA Play 2016 as they're made available.

E3 2016 officially runs June 14-16.

Awsm. That'll spare us the snooze-fest. Their conferences are one of the worst year after year.

EAs conferences are some of the dullest things I've ever watched on the internet. I don't think I've ever made it through one.

@dexda: They are still having a conference, they are just not going to be on the show floor. For anyone at home that makes no difference at all lol

@dexda: Fun fact. For E3 2015, due to timezone difference, I stayed up all night to watch them live. When EA's one rolled in, I slept for 2 hours or so :P

That really sucks. EA normally has the coolest booth at E3, and honestly that hall is starting to get rather bare. Last time I went (probably 2 years ago) half the hall didn't even have anything in it anymore.

@fanboyman: I really hope Nintendo pulls their head out of their rear with the NX and delivers a good product.

@NoahRoalson: Yeah the NX sounds really interesting but Nintendo could easily mess it up and disappoint everybody again!

@fanboyman: Everyone keeps saying it's a console/mobile hybrid deal which suggests another attempt at winning back casuals from their tablets and phones. An attempt that has almost no chance if we're being realistic. The only decent chance would be if it straight up ran Android (or iOS which is of course impossible heh) and had Google Play support, which is just not going to happen.

In any case if it's a casual chaser again then it probably won't be very exciting for gamers. I'm stupid though and I buy every console even when I know I'll barely play it so I might end up with one regardless. :)

Come to think of it when was the last time EA released a AAA game that scored at least a 9 they need to get their act together.

EA's press conferences are seriously some of the most dull ive ever sat through. Fake feeling of excitement with lots of causal garbage, way too long time spend on sports and always some completely unnecessary celeb crammed in. I'm totally fine if they skip out of the main lineup for their own thing.

As long as Bioware is showing Mass Effect: Andromeda gameplay and details, I'm all good but I'm still NOT taking that 2016 release date seriously and I wouldn't be surprise if it releases in 2017.

@Shantmaster_K: I'm a little worried about that getting pushed to next year. No AAA game stays this quiet for this long without at least rumours. Even Fallout 4 had tons of rumours flying around.

@pongley: Well it's already been announced with some teasers. Fallout 4 didn't get any confirmation until 6 months before release so I am not worried. I have a good feeling that it will be released with holiday season, but it wouldn't surprise me if it followed ME: 2 and ME: 3 and be released in the early part of next year.
