For the D&D fans out there who sad that the only big-screen Dungeons & Dragons adventure is the terrible 2000 film starring Justin Whalin and Marlon Wayans, there's some good news. Paramount has announced they are getting into the D&D business with a new film.

A Dungeons & Dragons movie was previously in the works at Warner Bros., with Ansel Elgort (Baby Driver) reported to be in negotiations at one point to play the lead. That's all in the past now as Paramount now has the rights and is charting its own course in adapting the role-playing game.

Almost nothing is known about the film other than the July 23, 2021 release date, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It's not the only major release Paramount has scheduled in the coming years: The studio also has a new GI Joe film on the calendar for March 27, 2020, a Micronauts adaptation on October 16, 2020, and an unnamed Hasbro event film on October 21, 2021.

The GI Joe film is the third for Paramount. GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra starred Channing Tatum in 2009, while Dwayne Johnson took over as the lead in 2013's GI Joe: Retaliation. It was previously reported that both GI Joe and Micronauts would join MASK--another 1980s toy line--to form a movie universe based on Hasbro properties. No MASK film has been announced at this point.
