Dragon Age II Legacy DLC dropping July 26

BioWare's fantasy RPG bringing new add-on to Xbox 360, PS3, PC and Mac later this month; new enemy types, environments, and improved AI promised.

BioWare is already hiring for Dragon Age III, but that doesn't mean the developer is finished crafting new content for the well-received Dragon Age II.

Dragon Age II adds new content on July 26.
Dragon Age II adds new content on July 26.

Today at the 2011 Electronic Arts Summer Showcase, the publisher officially announced Dragon Age II Legacy, the latest add-on for the fantasy role-playing game. The content will arrive for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and Mac on July 26. A price for the content was not mentioned.

In the content, gamers will suit up again as protagonist Hawke and will travel to an ancient Grey Warden prison and uncover additional details about his family history. Additionally, Hawke will visit new environments, battle new and "improved" enemies, craft a deadly weapon, and ultimately come face-to-face with a terrible horror.

Dragon Age 2 had so many glitches, that it was just sad. Even the dlc Exiled Prince was glitched.

The DLC which came with the game - Exiled Prince - was boring and uninspiring. And that is the one they actually had time todo right. So Legacy? Thanks but no thanks.

Nice, the improved combat with new areas to explore and better enemy AI should be an interesting package.

I hope Legacy will be better than Witch Hunt and Darkspawn Chronicles, and I enjoyed DA2 for what it was. And will you guys quit falling in love with Origins? Jesus F**king Christ..:|

I also look forward to seeing the next evolution of dragon age, where they take the good from origins/2 and combine it in one sweet package. DA2 was a ballsy move guys, at least they tried to make something fresh rather then rehashing the same sh*t over and over.

I dont know why people hate on da2 so much, or why they act like buying this game caused the world to end for them. I agree its not as good as origins in most ways but it is a solid game. How hawke came from his/her destroyed home and rose from nothing to be a force to reckon with in the politically dominated Kirkwall was interesting albeit less dramatic then what we experienced in Origins. the combat (at least on hard+) wasent that much different then origins, just more fast paced and alot better looking though still tactical. Those who complain that its a "hacknslash" game are the ones who never look for a challenge in their gaming ventures. They did this on have purpose however, if you dont like thinking (or just cant) they give you the normal/easy modes to plow through like an action game.

I could see purchasing the dlc for the first DA1 as I really enjoyed the heck out of it, but DA2 was a little bit of a let down for me. Think I'll be passing up on this game's dlc, and Skyrim will more than help pass my time.

@Targzissian: I totally agree with you there man. DA2 left me feeling a little bitter. The caves and dungeons were so uninspired and dull...and to repeat them!? Not cool. Yeah, don't think I'll be taking up any space on my Hard Drive come 7/26

I thought the original Dragon Age was better than DA2. Mostly it was the repeated recycling of environments/areas in DA2 that annoyed me. I think I'll wait for DA3 rather than purchasing this DLC. Man, I wish the old days when it was all about full-on expansions.

I seriously dont understand the amount of dlc that bioware releases. I mean dlc is supposed to mean expansion like six months+ after release not on the day of release. I was so pissed when i found out that one of dragon age characters was only available though dlc. Skyrim is coming out this year and hopefullt it will have less but massve dlcs.

@smitherean You know that being an elite is a good thing right? That it has a negative connotation now is a result of some very rich people manipulating it's portrayal and association in the media in an attempt at making people less trusting of specialists, and thus easier to manipulate.

@texasgoldrush You mean the narrative w/o a beginning and end? DAII's overwhelmingly pathetic attempt--undergraduate level in almost every single technical aspect--at using short story and advanced narrative techniques is both incredibly naive and disrespectful to short story writers and readers, as well as literature writers and readers.

Sorry but DAO is highly overrated......the truth is the series has yet to achieve greatness, unlike its sister series Mass Effect. However, the narrative and characters in DAII are far better written than the bland and generic Origins.

At best this game is good no doubt, but all that have played part 1 and the xpac's, knew they cut corners in Dragon Age 2. Hopefully Dragon Age 3 team will be made up of person who worked on Part1 and Part2 and combine the best things those two had going for it.. Looking forward to the DLC though..

@smitherean That's one way of looking at it. Another is that it sold well on name alone and got mediocre to favorable reviews, and people were unhappy once they had the game for themselves and realized what a cobbled together unfinished mess it was. Since gaming is one of those few markets were attempting to get a refund generally only gets you the finger people were stuck with something they fully expected to be more than it turned out to be. There's nothing really elitist about wanting a good game, at least, that's how I see it.

Release a complete game, then release one or two expansion packs (on disc, at least also). What EA and Bioware keep doing here is questionable.

I liked DA2 but i love Origins even more better...The reason why DA2 is hated is because they made DAO which touched the pinnacle of RPG's and then made DA2 that wasn't even close to ordinary games... Obviously anyone would criticise DA2 coz it ruined the series which would have been otherwise very epic. They made DA2 only average in comparison to the Outstanding stupendous DAO..Bioware just focussed a lot on graphics and gameplay ..Games like DAO ...You play them after 10 yrs and they'll still surprise you..Sadly DA2 was never surprising and too predictable.. I'll still keep a little hope for DA3...

There are far more problems than the ones you listed. Far more.... But quite honestly I don't care what these so-called "non-gamers" think. If they judge me by the actions of a group of people then their judgements are folly and not worth acknowledgement. Perhaps you are the one that should actually research exactly what was wrong with this game because judging by those small complaints you noted, you have no idea.

And stop telling people to grow up because they have different opinions than you. Good grief.

@OJdaLIONKing the changes didn't bother me ...they did things right and some wrong as many did but they made it like something that is booooooring (i've went in the deep roads expedition only with my rogues-my char being a rogue- no healer no nothing , only rogues and a heavy and i did finish the mission without dieing-on normal-, then came the recycle things and stupid characters and the combat at some point it gets boring, some references to my warden and some char that were in the first game )...I don't mind if the game is made more aproachable for consoles but they dumbed it down hard. From my point of view making a game more friendly for a console isn't dumbing it down but da 2 was AND YES I WILL BASH every inch of it when i get the chance...,maybe they will work harder on da 3

@ClawedMonkey Well they are referring to the games reception on a professional level. On that it did get good reviews, on review of other gamers, thats where the dislike the game comes from. As for me liking the game, well I played a little bit of it, I own it, and it was not bad. But I cannot make a fair judgement till I play more. Right now though my plate is far too full to play DA2 at the moment.

@ojdalionking You defending that story, in any way, is doing far more to fuel the stereotype that gamers are small minded. It was pathetic, in even the more basic and necessary ways, like having a beginning, middle and end--emphasis on beginning and end. And you should stop going to extremes so much; no one is saying this is game is "worst ever." They say it sucked, and it did. It was a half-assed bastard of a game and if you look at it relative to most other AAA titles it was atrocious.

I didn't hate DAII. In fact, the vitriol I've seen about it proves to me that we gamers aren't doing anything to dispel the notion non-gamers have about us being small minded, easily angered, prejudiced buffoons. The game probably wasn't as good as Dragon Age 1, but because they changed a few things it's automatically "WORSE GAME EVER!" and to even imply that it's not terrible is a cardinal sin. Grow up. Believe it or not, people are a lot more willing to listen and improve on mistakes when you point out individual ones with some sense, rather than calling the whole game a crime against humanity because they took out a camera angle or "console-ized" the combat. I'll see about maybe getting this DLC when there's more info available about it.

I never hated DAII, I was just horribly disappointed and NOW EA/Bioware (mostly EA at this point) decided to release DLC an attempt it more like its vastly superior counterpart? Sorry EA, you're not going to bleed my wallet dry for this blatant cash-grab. As for Bioware, I weep for what is now become; EA's half-beaten prostitute.

startman_1999 negative criticism is something good. But I was talking about taking pleasure in it. It is pointless to be negative only for the sole negativeness and take so much pride in it. It is also pointless to be positive for the sole positiveness. And btw dlc-s are a monymaker but there are not much complains about paying a monthly contribution about MMORPG-s which are exessively plolonged to be played more time so to squeese money. That I think is even worse than the DLC-s.

im getting dragon age 3 if they do some effort in making the game like they did with origin. DA2 was a milking of a good game and the developers must have thought "now that we have made a good RPG we can easly make a super horrible one so that people that loved the first game can fall for our lame Action game which should have been an RPG game". when the easy to make pathetic game is out we can make easy to create dlc's which needs no effort to make and send them out. im not getting dragon age 3 waaaaay after it's out and there is hundreds of reviews about it because bioware can't be trusted.

I bet there can be found great pleasure in ranting about something you don't really care about. And even greater pleasure in saying how much you will not care about it in the future for that mater. BUT who needs that anyway! People who like DA2 play it and find joy in it. Everyone else seems to spend their time posting how they are non playing the game. Pointless that is.

This game got stale really fast. I love the ME series but DA could use some energy. Take a clue from Bethesda. I still play Oblivion to this day. The game keeps surprising. Bioware forgot that the environment is a character. Recycling environments only kills long term game play. Any good rpg must have that.

"After a while" still means more ranting and fawning, I would say. The bulk of the Metacritic user reviews are those, and the aggregate user score would be taking these in.

Personally, I wouldn't trust any aggregate score that had been polluted by the whims of fans/haters any more than I would trust the critics'.

I stopped reading this article after the first sentence.. "well-received Dragon Age II"?? 4.2 user score on metacritic (3018 ratings). I know you get paid to promote the game but don't blatantly lie about it's reception. Unless it was meant as a joke. In that case HARDY ******* HAR!
