Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner E3 2004 Preshow First Look

Atlus' upcoming RPG will take place in a sci-fi universe.

Atlus will show Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner for the PlayStation 2 at E3. Digital Devil Saga is being developed by the same team behind the Persona series and the upcoming Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne. The game is a role-playing game, set within a gritty, sci-fi world. The game's primary character, Serf, lives in a town called Junkyard, where rain perpetually batters the landscape. Serf, along with four other companions, decides to set off for a place called Nirvana, a mythical land that has been described as only being reachable by the true champions of Junkyard. On their quest, Serf and company are accosted by a mysterious object, called The Pod, which infects them with demonic powers. Eventually, an enigmatic, dark-haired girl named Sera comes to their rescue and demonstrates an ability to help them control their new, insidious powers. Together, Serf, Sera, and company travel to Nirvana.

Digital Devil Sega promises to contain an epic storyline, as well as 50-plus hours of gameplay. The game's combat system will contain several unique elements, including a "devour" system, which will literally let you devour your enemies and absorb their powers and special abilities. Also, you will be able to switch between human and demon modes, which gives you the ability to take advantage of an opponent's specific weaknesses. Your party will be able to unleash special link attacks and also take advantage of a special "break" system that protects you from enemy attacks and will even reflect certain attacks. Your characters will also be customizable via a unique "mantra flow system."

Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner is currently scheduled for release this winter. We will have more coverage of this game in the near future.
