Destiny 2 Is Getting Glorious New Golden Exotics As Part Of Trials In Season 21

Several other changes to the PvP mode aim to make it easier to hop into and more rewarding.

Season 21 of Destiny 2 looks set to introduce some big changes to Bungie's cosmic sandbox, and for fans of competitive PvP, Trials of Osiris will be getting a fresh overhaul to make that mode more enticing. For newcomers to Trials, Bungie says that it wants to make the Trials introductory quest less of a chore and more of an actual tutorial to help players get a better understanding of this mode.

For Season of the Deep, Bungie is dropping the current requirements to enter Trials and is replacing it with the following changes to the introductory quest:

Step 1:

  • Complete your Competitive placement matches (helps to get players introduced to 3v3 and revive game modes in an environment where they will be matched against similarly skilled opponents).
  • Get 50 kills in Competitive.
  • Raise your Power level.

Step 2:

  • Pick up a Trials Passage.
  • Play a game of Trials.
  • Win 1 round of Trials.
  • Get 1 elimination in Trials.

Reward:

  • A roll of the Astral Horizon Trials Shotgun

Trials Passage offerings are also being updated to provide a better experience. Passage of Wealth will grant +75 Trials reputation for every win and an additional bonus for your current major rank in Trials, up to +150 total. Bungie says that this will encourage players to stay on the same card and take advantage of the system granting more reputation for wins later in the card. Passage of Mercy will forgive two losses if you have not yet been Flawless for the week, and after going Flawless, it will revert to forgiving a single loss on each card after you reset it.

Next season will see Dominion as the core game mode for Trials, replacing Elimination. Bungie says that it extensively tested the mode in Trials labs, and came to the conclusion that Dominion is overall faster, promotes more varied engagements, and provides a healthier sandbox variety.

"We understand that switching to Dominion may make carrying other players to the Lighthouse a more difficult challenge due to the increased premium placed on solid teamwork, but it is important to note that those experiences must be weighed against the bulk of all player experiences in the playlist when we make decisions on what changes to implement," Bungie added.

The big draw to Trials from next season will be a golden one, as Bungie is updating the rewards pool with new Exotic cosmetic gear to unlock. These prizes include a new Ghost shell, ship, and Sparrow to add to your collection, but the best reward is easily the Glorious Patina shader, which is unlocked after collecting loot from the Lighthouse. Glorious Patina will only be available to players who go Flawless during Season 21, and it adds a dazzling golden shine to Guardian gear.

On the weapons side of Trials, players can look forward to adept versions of The Messenger pulse rifle and the Unexpected Resurgence glaive next season, while The Inquisitor shotgun and Whistler's Whim bow will be removed from the loot pool. A new emblem is also being added, but to get your hands on it, you'll need to get a Flight of the Pigeon medal for every win and open the Flawless chest at the Lighthouse.

Future Seasons will see the return of older Trials shaders as rewards for completing the first Seasonal Flawless Ticket. With Season of the Deep kicking off on May 23, there are plenty of other changes to look forward to. The Strand subclass will expand with new Aspects, several Supers are getting big upgrades, and older Raid Exotics will be easier to obtain.
