Deadpool 2 Reshoots Adding More Of These Major Characters - Report

More Cable and Domino?

While reshoots on big movies are a standard part of the filmmaking process, there have been a number of high profile, more controversial reshoots over the past couple of years, such as on the Star Wars movies Rogue One and Solo and DC's Justice League. Earlier this week, it was rumored that the upcoming Deadpool 2 was also undergoing reshoots, following some negative test screenings. However, it has now been reported that the reshoots are to add more of the characters Cable and Domino (who are featured in the new trailer), following positive feedback from fans.

The news comes via Collider editor-in-chief Steven Weintraub, who explained that the initial two press screenings were, contrary to those earlier reports, warmly received. However, one comment from audiences of both screenings was that audiences wanted to see more of Josh Brolin (playing Cable) and Zazie Beetz (as Domino).

"So when everyone in the audience gives notes and says, 'We want more Domino, we want more Cable,' the smart play for the studio, especially in the competitive summer, is, 'OK, well, how can we do that, how can we add these characters?'" Weintraub said.

"That's the main thing about the additional photography. There was no train wreck, there was no, you know, 'Fans hate this movie.' It was, 'How can we make a really good movie even better?'"

As Collider's story notes, the reshoots that are currently taking place are "specifically focused on adding more scenes with Domino and Cable."

Deadpool 2 stars Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, plus Morena Baccarin, TJ Miller, and Brianna Hildebrand. David Leitch (John Wick, Atomic Blonde) is directing, replacing Tim Miller, who reportedly clashed with Reynolds over the direction of the movie.

The marketing campaign for the movie has been as unconventional as you'd expect. The most recent promo focused on Cable, but while it started like a generic superhero trailer, it then went in a very different direction. There's also been this Flashdance-inspired poster, heartwarming magazine covers, and bizarre painting class videos. Deadpool 2 hits theaters on May 18.
