Dead Space The Callisto Protocol creator Glen Schofield is hard at work on something new, as after enjoying some rest, the game developer posted an update on X/Twitter regarding his next project and plans to share details on it in the new year.

Schofield's last project was The Callisto Protocol, a return to sci-fi horror that received poor critical reception upon release. Developed at Striking Distance--where Schofield served as co-founder and CEO of the studio--the game did receive several substantial updates after release, but parent company Krafton still proceeded to lay off more than 30 staff members back in August. Schofield also left the studio, but in a statement, he confirmed that his exit had been planned for a while so that the new CEO, Steve Papoutsis, would have as smooth a transition as possible.

"Creating Striking Distance Studios has been an incredible journey and I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved with The Callisto Protocol, a game close to my heart. While pursuing a new adventure is exciting, leaving SDS is bittersweet, but I know the studio is in excellent hands," Schofield said at the time.

Schofield isn't the only high-profile game developer to part ways with a studio that he co-founded, as Hideki Kamiya exited Platinum Games earlier this year. Contractual obligations have put Kamiya on a one-year hiatus from developing video games, but the veteran designer says that he has a "clear idea" in mind for his next project when he eventually returns to the industry. If he can find support and funding, his next game will be one that only he can make.
