Hideki Kamiya, now formerly of Platinum Games, has announced that he is not retiring from the video game industry. However, he has revealed that he cannot work in the industry for one year. In the meantime, he created a YouTube channel.

Kamiya's first YouTube video shows him explaining about why he left Platinum Games. He was rather vague, saying, "I left the company because I wanted to follow my beliefs as a game creator and to choose the path, I think is right and move on." He also clarified that he isn't leaving the video game industry but can't work on any industry projects for one year "due to reasons, which may refer to a non-compete agreement with Platinum Games.

While on his one-year hiatus, Kamiya will upload videos to his YouTube channel, and they will be unrelated to the video game industry. At the end of his first video, he drives off to the unemployment office in a fancy car.

Kamiya has worked on fabled Japanese franchises for more than 30 years. He has worked on franchises such as Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, and The Wonderful 101. He announced his departure from Platinum Games last month.

His last project there was Project G.G. and it was announced back in 2020. However, its current development status is unknown now that he's gone.
