Crytek Cuts 15 Jobs At HQ

The job losses come after publishing duties for Warface went to an outside company.

Crytek announced today that it is laying off 15 employees at its Frankfurt, Germany headquarters as part of a wider effort to "focus on [its] core competencies."

This move comes after the business changes that Crytek announced in December, which resulted in the closure of five studios. The new round of layoffs affect the team that worked on the free-to-play shooter Warface. Crytek recently announced that publishing duties for the game in North America and Europe have been transferred to Russian company My.com.

Although 15 jobs are being lost as part of this new move, Crytek said "most" of the employees who worked on Warface at the studio are moving to other projects inside of the company.

"Crytek has always sought to push the boundaries of gaming, and that remains our primary goal as we scale down the business to re-focus on game and technology development first and foremost," Crytek cofounder and managing director Avni Yerli said in a statement. "Unfortunately, one of the inevitable effects of this process has been the redundancies we are announcing today.

"We are extremely grateful for the hard work and dedication of each and every person at Crytek, and the team members we now have to say goodbye to will receive comprehensive support that reflect that gratitude," he added. "We will also be on hand to offer whatever support we can as they seek to find new positions elsewhere that reflect their considerable talents."

Last year, it was reported that Crytek had not paid some employees for six months amid financial difficulties.

The sooner this company goes belly up the better. Then maybe we can finally get another time splitters when another company buys the rights in the liquidation process.

@deadpeasant: the only dev I think who could meet or top what Free Radical did is Machine Games....they have the same flair at least when you see Wolfenstein TNO in action.....

add that type of game with a level editor and maybe MP developed by Id Software you'd have a hit.....

but yeah when Crytek goes tits up it'll be a good day......the only game they ever made that I like is the original Far Cry.....

crytek is losing it. compared to programing, i heard that unreal engine doesn't need any 3d modeling to use it's tools for it, while the cryengine still does and doesn't have any blueprint or something to program faster.

@slypher9: true, the cryengine require proabably the lastest 3ds max or autodesk maya to built character rig from what i read, but i think unreal engine have it's own rigging system for any characters and you can use any random models for it.

What competencies? You haven't put out any worthwhile games in how long, and Unreal engine is kicking the Cryengine all over the field.

Sell the Ryse IP to MS.

Focus on improving your engine and working on your biggest titles.

Pay your employees.

Not much else I can really hope for them to do..... I have no idea what's going on over there. Hopefully they'll recover or something good comes out of this.

I would not be surprised if they were bought by Amazon in the next few years.

@ello432: I honestly think publishers would be more interested in picking up the Crytek IPs rather than the studios.

@LPDisturbedHU: I think he is talking about Amazon aquring Cryengine. I mean hell they already have an engine based off it.
