Cities: Skyline 2 developer Colossal Order has provided an update about the game's post-release plans and its goals going forward. This includes targeting a solid 30 frames per second with the game, as well as fixin performance issues.

Colossal Order said that it's working on improvements to the game, such as removing stutters, optimizing and balancing GPU performance, and pushing CPU optimizations. The studio is also looking at expanding the options for upscaling solutions.

"Both FSR2 and DLSS2 require the use of Temporal Anti-aliasing, which is not possible at the moment due to some objects being incompatible with that technique," Colossal Order said in a forum post. "We are currently working towards making this possible, which will not only help to boost performances but also provide a better-quality anti-aliasing solution than the one we currently use."

Furthermore, Colossal Order wants to aim for a steady 30 frames per second for the game, as it explains that there isn't any real long-term benefit for a city builder to aim for a higher one, unlike other genres such as multiplayer shooters. However, the studio also notes that it doesn't intend to stop optimization work once that target is reached, as a higher frame rate can contribute to better visuals and temporal effects.

Despite publisher Paradox Interactive being aware of the game's technical issues and even issuing a warning to fans about them, it still launched on October 24 for PC. Cities: Skylines 2 is also due out for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S sometime in 2024.
