Charlie Cox Debates Whether A PG-13 MCU Daredevil Film Could Work

Actor Charlie Cox, who will reprise the role of Daredevil in the MCU at some point in the future, says when his superhero returns it deserves to be in an R-rated film. Speaking with ComicBook, Cox says even if he doesn't get his way, he has total faith that Marvel will figure out how to hold onto the character's brutality and still work if it must be a PG-13 film.

"I wouldn't put it past the folks at Marvel to be able to accomplish that," said Cox. "I'm such a fan of everything they've done so far, I wouldn't underestimate them at all. So if they wanted to make a more PG version of Daredevil, I back them to find a way to do it where it feels totally in keeping with everything we've done [on the show]. And maybe there's a little less blood, maybe there's a little whatever, but I back them to do it."

Cox added that Daredevil comic storylines that are the most "exciting, readable, and relatable" to him are ones that don't shy away from the character "liv[ing] in a darker space."

Most recently, Daredevil made a brief appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. On March 16, Daredevil--along with a number of other series including Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Agents of SHIELD--will land on Disney+ after abruptly disappearing off Netflix. On Netflix, Daredevil's series ran from 2015 until 2018 and spanned 39 episodes across three seasons until the streaming service canceled it.

In December, Marvel boss Kevin Feige confirmed plans for Cox to reprise Daredevil, though offered no details on what form such a project would take.
