Every Upcoming Marvel Movie And TV Show, From Both The MCU And Sony

While 2020 may have been a full year without any new Marvel releases, chances are we're not going to see that again for a very long time. For over a decade, Marvel Studios has built out its movie universe, culminating in Avengers: Endgame. And, of course, Disney isn't slowing down anytime soon.

Neither is Sony, which owns the rights to some important Marvel characters. While there are a massive amount of new movies and TV shows on the way to further expand the MCU, Sony is continuing to build out its universe of movies based on characters from the Spider-Man franchise. With so many projects in various stages of development and production, though, it can be hard to keep track of them all.

Luckily, we did it so you don't have to. Take a look at this easy-to-follow guide for a breakdown of every announced or reported Marvel Studios or Sony project based on Marvel characters that are in the works. The projects below are in chronological order, starting with the next MCU release on the calendar, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Release date: May 6, 2022.

There's going to be a lot happening in this movie. Firstly, it follows up on WandaVision, with Elizabeth Olsen reprising her role as Scarlet Witch. And, of course, it could be shaped by the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Doctor Strange. However, it's also been revealed that the film will introduce the character of America Chavez, known in the comics as Miss America. Sochi Gomez will play the role.

Release date: June 8, 2022.

Ms. Marvel will introduce the world to the MCU's Kamala Khan, as played by Iman Vellani. The character will then pop up in The Marvels, the sequel to Captain Marvel.

Production has wrapped on the next Thor movie. Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Tessa Thompson all reprise their roles, while Taika Waititi is back to direct once again. The movie's villain, Gorr the God Butcher, will be played by Christian Bale.

While we aren't sure what direction the second Black Panther movie will take, it's been confirmed that the role of T'Challa will not be recast after the death of Chadwick Boseman. The film is currently in production, with Ryan Coogler again serving as writer and director, for release next year.

Thus far we know practically nothing about the next Into the Spider-Verse movie, other than that it's happening. Honestly, though, that's good enough news to keep us satiated for now.

What's this? A live-action holiday Guardians special? It's real, and it's probably going to be as funny as you'd expect. Feige previously said, "In irreverent Guardians fashion, the Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special is going to be a lot of fun, especially since James Gunn is back to write and direct. In fact, we're going to shoot it during the production of Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3."

Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslaney is playing She-Hulk/Jennifer Walters in the upcoming Disney+ series. What's more, Mark Ruffalo will be appearing as Hulk, and Tim Roth is reprising his role as Abomination.

What little we know about this movie is still enough to get us excited. Kraven the Hunter will star Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the titular big game hunter, known for hunting Spider-Man in the comics.

Instead of Captain Marvel 2, we will be getting The Marvels as a follow-up. The film will see Brie Larson's Captain Marvel meeting up with Kamala Khan. We'll also see the return of the adult version of Monica Rambeau, who was introduced in WandaVision. The movie will be directed by Candyman (2021) director Nia DaCosta.

Now that The Suicide Squad is out in the world, writer/director James Gunn's attention is turning back toward the third Guardians film. Not too many details have been revealed at this point, though Dave Bautista has said it will likely be the last film in which he appears as Drax at this point.

The next Ant-Man movie will see the returns of Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, and Michelle Pfeiffer. Additionally. Kathryn Newton (Freaky) is joining to play Scott Lang's daughter Cassie, while Jonathan Majors will be taking on the role of Kang the Conqueror. Majors previously appeared in the first season of Loki as He Who Remains, meaning the third Ant-Man film will likely connect to the series.

Secret Invasion is one of the biggest events in Marvel Comics history and it'll be coming to life as a Disney+ series sometime in 2022. "It's about a set of Skrulls who have infiltrated every level of life on Earth," Feige previously explained. Returning faces are Ben Mendelsohn as Talos and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.

We still know nothing about this movie, other than Mahershala Ali will play the titular role.

The final episode of Loki Season 1 promised the series would be returning for a second season. At this point, that's all we know.

With Iron Man no more, Marvel Studios is moving forward with the story of Ironheart. Dominique Thorne will play Riri Williams in a live-action take on the Ironheart character, who is a genius inventor and happens to have the most advanced suit of armor on the planet. The character will first be introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Don Cheadle will return as Rhodey in Armor Wars. "We're also well underway on a series for Disney+ based on Armor Wars, a classic Marvel story about Tony Stark's worst fear coming true," Feige previously teased. "It's what happens when his tech falls into the wrong hands."

Disney+ will be the home to a series of shorts featuring Groot going on adventures meeting new and unusual characters.

An animated female-focused Spider-Verse spin-off was first announced in November 2018. Deadline reported that it will focus on "three generations of women with Spidey powers,” while producer Amy Pascal subsequently stated that three heroes would be Spider-Gwen, Cindy Moon/Silk, and Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman. There's no telling whether this is still being actively developed.

A Madame Web film was first reported in September 2019, to be written by Morbius scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Madame Web is a code name used by several characters in the Marvel Universe, but it's most commonly used for Cassandra Webb, a mutant with clairvoyant powers. In May 2020, it was reported that TV director S.J. Clarkson (Jessica Jones, The Defenders) was set to direct Sony's first "female-focused" Spider-Man universe movie. While it's not been confirmed that this would be a Madame Web movie, it's possible. Though, like many of the Sony movies in development, there's no telling if Madame Web is still happening.

One of the most exciting recent names to be linked to an upcoming yet-to-be-announced Sony superhero movie is actor and director Olivia Wilde. This news was confirmed by Wilde herself, who retweeted a story in Deadline that suggested it will focus on the character of Spider-Woman, accompanying it with a spider emoji. Deadline stated that Wilde will write the project with Katie Silberman, her collaborator on her acclaimed 2018 directorial debut Booksmart.

A movie about Korean-American spider-powered superhero Silk (aka Cindy Moon) was first rumored back in June 2018, but very little subsequent news about the project emerged over the next two years. However, it was reported in September 2020 that the character will now feature in a TV show rather than a movie. No other updates have been announced.

News of a Jackpot movie came in May 2020. This super-strong crime fighter is a relatively new character--she first appeared in 2007 and has had two identities so far, Sara Ehret and Alana Jobson. The only other thing we know so far about this project is that Marc Guggenheim (Supergirl, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow) has been hired to write the script.
