Bungie considering Destiny PC version

"We haven't said yes, and we haven't said no," developer says about bringing shared-world shooter to PC; "complexities" hurting possibility of save files transferring across platforms.

Bungie's all-new shooter Destiny may be released for the PC, though the developer is not ready to confirm anything just yet. Speaking with IGN, Bungie senior writer and community head Eric Osborne said developing for more platforms means more work, and Bungie is unwilling to develop for one platform at the expense of another.

No Caption Provided

"We haven't said yes, and we haven't said no," Osborne said. "The more platforms we take on, the more work it ultimately becomes, and what we don't want is to compromise the core experience on any platforms. We have a lot of people who play on PCs. We have a lot of appetite to build that experience. We haven't announced it yet, but we're looking forward to talking more about that kind of stuff in the future."

A PC version of Destiny previously appeared on Bungie's website.

Destiny will be a multiplatform game, launching on next-generation platforms like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, as well as current-generation systems including the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Asked if save files will be transferable across platforms, Osborne said currently there are "complexities" that must be resolved to make it possible.

"For us, [platforms] are purely agnostic," Osborne said. "Any data on our back-end servers and services, like Bungie.net, are ours. We control it, we can do a bunch of fun stuff on that side. So for us, we want to absolutely do the right things for players. But there are some complexities we have to solve that are outside our control. But we're absolutely pushing to solve some of those things. We don't have anything to announce, but hopefully in the future we will."

Destiny's worldwide gameplay reveal will take place during Sony's 2013 Electronic Entertainment Expo briefing on June 10. The game's first live-action/CGI trailer, directed by Iron Man director Jon Favreau, launched yesterday. It features Breaking Bad star Giancarlo Esposito.

I don't care at all about this franchise anymore. I was getting PC gamer magazines in the late 90's with discs full of video clips of the upcoming PC ONLY HALO 1, then Microsoft created the first Xbox, bought out Bungie, cut the graphics quality in half and then marketed it to 12 years olds and the rest is history. Besides, when I shoot at stuff in a game I don't like seeing a big shield orb appearing around everything, I mean that's acceptable in a Disney film but I need my visceral action.

@Psycold Wow. A) The pre-Xbox version of Halo had worse graphics compared to the final version. I would love to know where you are getting this. B) They do lose some cool points for selling out to MS, but that's ancient damned history, and they've certainly redeemed themselves. C) Halo's shield mechanic was revolutionary and lauded at the time, though to each his own. D) Bungie is not a franchise, they are a developer. If you are referring to the Halo franchise, than you might be interested to learn that Destiny is not Halo.

Bungie will have no choice but to release it for PC, that's where us gamers will be in the next generation of consoles (oh the irony).

@Jebril "Hey fellow console makers! It seems our PC competitor is on the rise?! What ever shall we do!"

" Let's use our accessibility as a console and user-friendliness to attract them away from PC like we always have!"

" RUBBISH! Let us copy all of it's bad aspects, Gamers a masochistic lot, they'll LOVE IT!"

*round of applause*

With the recent M$ FUBAR-ONE firestorm, I can see that Bungie is looking for other sources of revenue. If they make this move, I will buy several copies of destiny and give them away to my friends for plain support!

With the x86 architecture on both of the new consoles, it would be so easy to make a scalable game and have it released on PC, XBO, and PS4 without much more of an investment.

If these new console games don't come to PC, they're really just saying no to money... Especially XBox One games, since its Microsoft, and the division of system ram / video ram still needs to be defined in those games being made for One, like on PC's. I would understand if PS4 exclusives don't make it to PC, cause its Sony, and the ram is shared between system/video, so it would require some more programming to get it working on PC.

@emperiox @Printul_Noptii Halo 1 CE is still very solid on the PC I checked on it last week and found populated servers, also it was modded to look even better than Anniversary, check out Halo CE CMTmod on youtube. Its a very solid shooter franchise and MS kept it Xbox excluisve for a long time to boost their sales same happened to Gears of War 2-3, Halo 1-2 and Gears 1 were all released for the PC as well even thou they pulled a dickmove with the Vista exclusive on Halo 2. Still I know a lot of die hard FPS fans who would love to see it on the PC.

Well, Bungie, if you don't make a PC version of Density...er...Destiny, then you clearly don't want my money. I'll give it to companies that do, sine they make PC version of their games.

I don't even know what to say about this really.

The great developer that pioneered it's hit exclusive (to a point) fps franchise on consoles is "considering" porting this game to PC.

With that said, I'm good either way. The fact that an MMOFPS doesn't come on PC (I'm looking at you too Dust 514) still baffles my mind completely.

I never would of expected such a future where GTA 5 on PC and now MMO's are not 100% confirmed on PC but only "considered".

Don't bother... if Bungie have to sit and think for several months whether they should release a game on the most powerful gaming platform then they should stick to making console games.

PC used to be the premier platform for the best shooters: RTCW, the original Call of Duty, Crysis, Half-Life, etc.. Now developers have to "consider" whether to make a PC version. Sigh...

@Meenymuffin Retailers are taking pre-orders now with the intention of refunding if it isn't on PC. better to offer the option now and risk giving refunds then offer it later and risk people pre-ordering elsewhere.

@NTM23 You may find out when they show more of it at E3 next month. Until then, nobody but Bungie would be able to answer that.

Bungie pretty much killed PC players when they didn't release Halo games to PC after 2nd game. Hopefully they'll atleast bring this awesome game to our platform.

If there is no PC version, I simply won't play it. So far, Sony and Microsoft made a pretty horrible job at trying to sell me their new consoles. The worst part is, I wanted to be convinced due to the fact that I currently don't own a video game console besides a N64 with no controllers.

I don't know why, but i get this Co-op vibe mostly from the game, so if it really is only co-op i don't see a problem with it being cross-platform.

And if it does have PvP then allow it only between the same platforms and not versus others, simple.

Come on Bungie, Why not develop a PC version and release at the same time as the consoles? If you guys put it out six months later, then sales will be low because anyone who have bought would have bought it for their consoles, but wont buy it a second time for their PC.
