BioWare Producer Asks If You'd Play a Dragon Age "Tactics" Game

Something similar to XCOM or Fire Emblem, Mark Darrah says.

Dragon Age executive producer Mark Darrah has a question for you: "Would you play a Dragon Age Tactics game?" He's launched a Twitter poll asking fans to weigh in. Something to note here is that by "tactics" he says he means something along the lines of tactical franchises like XCOM or Fire Emblem.

Your options are "Yes," "No," "Only on PC," and "Only mobile/handheld." Voting closes later today, so if you want your voice heard, now is the time to submit your response.

There is no guarantee that BioWare will indeed make a turn-based Dragon Age tactics game, of course, but it's still interesting to think about.

Darrah also clarified that if this game were to happen, it would not replace the mainline Dragon Age series, something fans will probably enjoy hearing.

This would also be a "full game," he mentioned.

Like the first Dragon Age, 2014's Dragon Age Inquisition allowed you to play from a top-down view for some portions, which amounted to something of a more tactical experience.

Inquisition is the latest entry in the main series; no new games have been announced.

Sounds good to me. A fantasy tactics rpg with high-quality graphics and storytelling sounds great! As long as there is customization along the lines of Fire Emblem.

I think Dragon Age needs more cover shooting mechanics and less RPG Kappa

After Inquisition I'm not really interested in the main series any more despite Origins grabbing me for quite a while, but I'd totally buy a tactical Dragon Age game.

@stereoflava: Yeah, I'd probably go for that. They made a bunch of Space Hulk style PC games, but those are a little too married to the tabletop rule set for my tastes.

I think game sales severely decrease when the Drama Wagon approaches. "We need the game to contain THIS!" "You really need to do THIS to your game!" "OMG how insensitive! How come you don't have THAT!" "Well I'm a 1,000 certified such and such that doesn't even like video games and you know you have to have THAT!" If you get so far off base your game doesn't even appeal to it's customers because it is being pushed into a certain demographic, you might have as well as not have made the game at all.

Examples could include:

- Epic Supreme One Shoot Kill PvP Shooter 300 fps Turn Based

- Mega Hyped MMO Cross Platform Hyperthreaded Game That Requires You Log Out To Win

- All Canadian Mobile Device Cooking Game Where You Can Scan Items from Your Local Store Sold Now in Africa

- Blue Hair Barber Simulator Sold Only in China

- Epic Cuddly Pants Cute Max Fuzzy Collectible Warm Happy Stuffed Animal Game Marketed To People In Prison That Can't Buy it

@Tangsta03: Ok so you are probably going to judge me but Pokemon Conquest has a lot of maps and mission objectives. It is pretty tactical because to recruit people you have to beat them in like 4 turns with a certain character and with the special effects of pokemon that adds another layer. I cant remember if you can change the difficulty but unfortunately it can be easy. BUUUUTTT I was pretty surprised how good it was for a side pokemon/pokemon strategy game. haha

Tip of the cap for Darrah addressing fans on an idea rather than just immediately developing a concept without prior knowledge on if said game would be wanted by the gaming community. Plus I'd be good with a tactics style game, Final Fantasy Tactics is still one of my favorite games, and maybe it'll bring a different element to the Dragon Age series, which for me personally, is an underwhelming series overall.

@omotih: Make an original game? You realize we're talking about a series that literally started as a spiritual successor to another game, right?

@omotih: Don't be silly. That's like saying they shouldn't make Warcarft, Starcraft or Age of Empires because they're all RTSes. Besides how many decent Fire Emblem clones are out there? I can't think of any.

There's a hidden market for this type of game. Final Fantasy Tactics was a major console AAA budget game but thirst for it fizzled out because they kiddified it for handhelds. A turn-based Dragon Age game focussed squarely on game play? Holy moly. Consider how great the gameplay was for the original Dragon Age!

Like the Souls franchise, the hardcore market would worship this style of Dragon Age game (done right) and it could snowball into mass-market appeal. Appease the core with great gameplay, establish street cred and watch the money roll in. Square Enix would take note and follow up with a real FF Tactics II and a new golden age of gaming would be born. It's all on you now Darrah! No pressure.

Only if it's story driven, like for example Final Fantasy Tactics. If it's all about "missions" in randomized levels then probably not.

Glad to see Dragon Age universe expanding but I am not a fan of TBS. I am all for RTS DA version. Anyway good luck to them.

@Gagomkd: xcom and fire emblem are not TBS though, they are turn based tactics games (xcom does have a strategy part but you spend most of the time in the ground tactics part)

meh, I support the idea, but I'd rather see the resources spent on other things, namely a new Knights of the Old Republic.

I wonder if Disney voiding the expanded universe makes games development in the expanded universe a no-no as well? I mean they're still support TOR as it's a cash-cow, but new games? Likely not...so sad.

Whatever, just make a new IP :D

Gamer answers maybe...gamer asks; Can Bioware make a good DA tactics game? How about a current gen Knights of the Old Rebublic first. How about a proper end to Mass Effect 3 first!

@Barighm: Ehh, I didn't really dig Origins all that much. It was OK, but kinda dull. Despite it's flaws, I think Inquisition is the better game.

I don't care what franchise you slap over it, I'll play a good SRPG, if it's good. But you better focus on getting the gameplay right before you do anything else, which recent games you've put out have not done.

Oh, by the way, a good SRPG doesn't have day one DLC or online microtransactions. Can you handle that?

@Thanatos2k: Of course they can't handle that. The very attempt alone would drive all of EA's executives mad.
