Battlefield 4 PC bug causing game to freeze, enter sound loop

PC players having a rough time at the moment, but DICE is working on a fix.

A bug affecting the PC version of Battlefield 4 is currently causing the game to freeze for some users, resulting in a sound loop. Developer DICE acknowledged the issue on the Battlelog and said it is currently working on a fix.

Bugs of this nature can be particularly frustrating because they force you to restart your game, and the sound loop only adds to the headache. DICE says it will have more information to share regarding the implementation of a fix at a later date.

The Battlefield 4 PC bug is not the only issue the game is facing today. According to the Battlefield 4 Top Issues Tracker, DICE is currently investigating a total of seven issues affecting various platforms. Issues affecting all platforms currently include sudden frame-rate drops, rubber banding issues for players with solid connections, and some instances where damage is not applied to enemies.

Electronic Arts chief creative officer Richard Hilleman recently defended Battlefield 4's rocky launch, saying, "I think there was a lot of noise about the game, but some of that is a function of your surface area. The more customers you have, the more noise becomes available. We did things wrong. We know that. We're gonna fix those things. We're gonna try to be smart about what customers want in the future."

The Battlefield 4: Second Assault expansion launched this week for Battlefield 4 Premium members. It includes four fan-favorite Battlefield 3 maps updated using the Frostbite 3 game engine. Check out a preview of the expansion below.

GameSpot are about as corrupt as EA/DICE. They don't post negativity about how bad the game truly is, but when they do they make it out to be so minor and as if it's one of very few bugs.

It comes as no surprise why GameSpot reviewed the preview copy of Battlefield 4 and ultimately refuse to re-review the game as it was released on November 1st to the global audience. We all know the BF4 beta was on a early, stable build, using different shaders and stripped of many mechanics, all the while the broken mess ready for release sat on discs in stores awaiting the release date and the content for delivery over the Origin network was waiting in an equally bad mess a short while after. So why aren't you doing reviews properly GameSpot? Oh that's right, you can't do your jobs properly. You'll insist on getting reviews out early, by reviewing preview content, or content aimed at media that has no direct relation to what the consumers will get when it is ultimately released.

If you reviewed things properly, perhaps the game everybody else got and not the one prepped for beta users and media, then you'd of been a much more reliable source in which gamers can rely. However, I can see that instead you're a bunch of glorified kiddos with a love for their cameras and the sound of their own voices who do a ridiculous job at posting anything even remotely useful for the people who use this website.

I would go into detail about how I spent ÂŁ94.98 on BF4 pre-order and Premium, tried endless fixes, reported bugs, compiled lists, made videos, tweeted DICE employees (who did see my reports), had my posts deleted (silenced, even though perfectly acceptable), witness the same bugs months after DICE employees asked me for video proof of problems, etc), but that'd be a bit much, wouldn't it? Oh, but now we've gone full circle back to instability and sound bugs, just like we had at release. 8/10, right Gamespot? The plummeting player numbers and large majority of people experiencing problems must be our imagination.

Now I await my ear/eye bashing, but nobody can deny what I've written as true.

@UKFX The perfect man has been found! I agree with you; never bashing you, Iam.

Ah you know what's worst? People already forgave EA, because Titanfall... the circle will never be broken. That's why EA will always live. 'Cause core gamers keep supporting their failure practices, then blame the "filthy casuals".

Reviewers are being paid and controlled. I actually know a Bethesda developer, and let me tell you, the truth is ugly.

You know who is else deleting people threads, tweets, and topics on forums? Overkill, developers of PayDay2, are silencing anyone who REPORTS CHEATING, and/or anyone who talks about their latest cash grabbing practice. Pre-release, they promised to never have Microtransactions. Guess what? Gerneds and other weapons like more guns and knives have their own packs now. Instead of even being in a single pack for like 6 USD, nope... they put into two packs, each one for 4.99 USD.

Blasphemy!

Well, Andrew Goldfarb of Overkill is from EA, lol.

I don't see you publishing any games that cost millions of dollars and hard work to create. Don't wish death on companies. Instead, help them do better by acknowledging the problems but also celebrating the hard work they've done.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Sorry, you're right, I was thinking of a comment above yours mentioning that EA should die. You weren't saying that.

I agree with several of your points, DLC sucks compared to proper expansions. I do like being able to buy all the DLC though Premium though (I wait a few years when it goes on sale and then get it).

I'm not big on the debate about paid reviews.. I look at the content in reviews more than the scores, since my opinions are different than most.

Overall, I don't like DLC, or games that hold your hand, or any of the other trends in AAA games these days.. I just think that underneath the buggy mess, BF4 is pretty good game.

Mirror's Edge 2 has the potential to be amazing as well, I am pretty excited about that, you got me.

More than anything, I'm encouraged by the massive success of indie games and smaller games. If one force in the market (like EA and big publishers) isn't providing what people want, other forces will move in and be successful, and the big publishers will adjust their strategy to try to capitalize on that.

TL;DR: Good points. It all works out in the wash.

@jhpiv4 But for you, you keep making excuses and defend a game with no merit, and a company that lost its validity a long age ago. As long as there are people like you supporting them, then it will only get worst. EA are preventing reviews that are lower than a perfect score of 5 on their android games, they force DLC, they make you pay more for less... or for nothing! It's not the casual gamer who buys the mandatory DLC and other things EA does. It's the core gamers like yourself who put up with these things, who buy the mandatory DLCs.

Good luck with your next Mirror's Edge, Battlefield, Mass Effect, and Dragon Age.

@jhpiv4 Ha what? No one is wishing them death... I don't know what you are reading there.

You don't see me publishing games with huge budgets? So, If I cannot do what they do, I'm not elgible for an objective opinion that calls them out on their behaviour?

Are we not entitled to the sweat of our borrow? Reviewrs are lying everyday about games and reporting, and sucking up or hating developers and doing all kind of wrong things, to stir up people. Developers and Publishers are taking advantage of consumers at all levels with no regrets. EA's Hardwork? No... they need to change, no one should a celebrate their fixes; it's too late for the fixes. You pay over 100 USD for a broken game, and with each fix, they break something.

Help them do better by acknowledging the problem? Guess what we acknowledge the problems, we talk them, they silence us, they report us, they delete us, they ban us. But hey what do we know...? we are not people who make huge budget games.

If you think Battlefield 4 is the most stable gaming experience you've ever experienced, hold on to your ass.

Battlefront is coming. You ain't seen nothing yet.

@TheWatcher000 Yea... anyone actually excited for another Battlefront ought to reign in those expectations, and then euthanize them, and piss on their graves. That's the kind of hopefull attitude I have regarding future EA/Dice partnerships...

Wow. Incredible. The quality of the gameplay in Battlefield 4 (bugs aside) is nothing short of amazing. I'm talking about all-out warfare between troops and vehicles.. It's very well done.

Combing that with the Star Wars universe is going to be unlike anything we've ever seen. No part of that is exaggeration.

If you remember, Battlefront 1 & 2 had their fair share of glitches as well, and terrible AI, but they are still classics.

@jhpiv4 Nah, it has just becoming too much of a staple of EA games, they release them unfinished. I don't care how much good work has been done underneath the surface, I don't care how good the bare-bones basics are working (because they do work very well in BF4, I agree). The value of the product comes from all things being complete and complementing one another, and in the experience being stable and fun for everyone. This isn't happening with any EA games lately, and it has actually gotten much worse in recent years.

I like Battlefront on paper, just like I like Battlefield on paper, but the idea enough, or a half assed execution of it, just aren't enough to make me give a publisher and developer $60 of my hard earned money. Particularly not a publisher like EA games who has such a vast array of funds and resources at their disposal, there is just NO EXCUSE FOR THE KIND OF JUNK they've been releasing lately, that's it, end of story, I'm sick of their shoddy products.

As a lose metaphor it's like buying a full priced house after taking a tour of it and seeing it all furnished and maintained (you know, similar to a flashy trailer). Then you hand over your money and walk in the door and suddenly all the finer touches are gone. You've still got all the basic appliances and things you need to function, but the paint is stripped from the walls, the carpets gone, the basement unfinished and there's a stench in the air...

Oh for crying out loud, I was about to try this game out since the newest expansion is on the go... but it sounds like only more frustrations await me :(

Seriously though this game is little more than a joke at this point, I've spent $110 on it and barely have any drive to see my money turned into playtime at this point. It's just a solid warning to stay away from future EA products.

Hopefully it will be running perfectly by the time it's ready for release.

<< LINK REMOVED >> I can. This seems to be normal business practice for these people in this industry. I do not pre-order games anymore and you wouldn't believe how many missiles I simply let go cruising past me.

By the time the game is actually fixed and optimized, its already on sale. It's a win/win situation.

bf4 for me personally has been a very stable game. I remember after the launch of bc2 the servers being down and was unplayable for the first couple days.. That has never happened with bf4 and I really loved bc2... Never once was I not able to join a server and play in bf4. If anyone can remember bf2142, that game had big problem with stats not saving but that was patched. 2142 was another one of my favorites, but that was very annoying at the time. Keeping your pc in tip top shape and pretty good hardware is a must for bf games and always has been. You need to know how to keep PB manually updated among other drivers. Ive seen people bitch about this game being buggy and they were trying to run it on a outdated video card. Also server disconnects are going to happen playing these types of games. there are reserved slots and other things to take into consideration.

All in all I have already got my moneys worth with bf4 considering the hours I have into it and IM happy with my purchase. I have great fun playing with a full squad of my friends!

@jhpiv4

I run it well on two desktop pc's and they are both ATI cards. The older one I built back in 07 and upgraded over the years. It has a HD 5850 and still plays BF4 stably on medium. Currently I'm playing on a PC I built in 2010 (1st gen i7) for Bad Company 2 when directx 11 first came out. Amd were the first to have dx11 cards. Only thing I have updated since is the GPU to a 7870 running at high/ultra around 60fps.

Not bad for a pc built 4 years ago and playing bf uses about 55% of my cpu and 45% of my ram.

As driver support progresses Amd and Nvidia both have gotten better with bf4, but at first and I think even now you can still tell they are hardware partners with AMD.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Thanks for the reply. That is pretty good for a 4 year old computer. I hope mine lasts that long.

I had some problems with image scaling on my AMD card, so I invested in nvidia this time around. Neither is perfect I guess. I think you hit the nail on the head about it being a side effect of them partnering with AMD though.

@djpetitte Thanks for reminding me that ALL battlefield games have had terrible issues on launch. Some people need that kind of reminder to keep them away. What's the phrase... something about being doomed to repeat the past if you don't learn from it?

EA/Dice aren't familiar with this saying I suppose.

"But I’m not willing to accept--and I don’t think most of my customers are willing to say--'it’s a bad product, I wish I didn’t buy it.' That’s not the conversation we’re having now.........I think what we’re hearing is, 'You made a game we really liked. We would’ve liked it a little better if it didn’t have these problems.' << LINK REMOVED >> BF4 is developed by Dice. Titanfall is developed by Respawn. EA is a publisher. You have no idea what the **** your talking about. As a side note: The titanfall beta ran exceptionally well on my pc and i had a lot of fun playing it. Battlefield 4, glitches included, is still a pretty solid game. Yes i've had the game crash, but if you've played games on pc before you shouldn't find this to be a new thing. Games crash every now and then, Deal with it.

i love battlefield franchise but bf3 and bf4 are the worst games in the franchise, they shouldn´t exist. EA and DICE are a bunch of incompetents. it a shame that titanfall and star wars is on EA hands, because sooner or later EA will start developing garbage games with the name titanfall and starwars on the cover.
