Avengers: Infinity War Director on the "Unique" Way the films Will be Made

If you thought Captain America: Civil War has a lot of characters, just wait until we get to Avengers: Infinity War. Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo are moving onto the two-part Avengers epic next, which promise to feature nearly 70 Marvel superheroes. Anthony Russo has now revealed how they plan to juggle this huge cast of characters.

Speaking to Den of Geek this week to promote Civil War, Russo revealed that would have to take a very different approach with these next films. "I think the process will become more intense on Infinity War," he said. "We are shooting both movies at the same time, [and] there are so many actors involved in those films. I think our narrative approach on those movies in going to be very unique to a superhero film."

"We're going to have to tell those stories from a multi-perspective," he explained. "We'll establish the story for one character, move to another character, establish the story, move to another character, establish the story, move to another character. And they'll all be heading to a unified narrative or plot."

Russo went on to explain that the filmmaking process would go hand-in-hand with editting, so the film is formed and, if necessary, changed during production. "One piece of the process is really important to us: that we watch and cut scenes every 48 hours," he said. "So that we're constantly assessing how the ideas are working. And if they are working, how can we make them work even better? And if they're not working, then how do we fix them?

"I think it'll be a very difficult, long shoot, because we'll constantly be shooting and assessing and reshooting and assessing."

Earlier this month, Russo stated that despite plans to shoot both parts of Infinity War back-to-back, the two films would in fact be separate from each other. "The movies are very, very different from one another," he said.

Avengers: Infinity War Part One arrives in 2018, with Part Two following in 2019. Captain America: Civil War hits cinemas on May 6, 2016.
