Publisher Koei Tecmo has confirmed that the upcoming Attack on Titan video game will extend past the anime show's first season. The announcement was made at Gamescom, alongside the debut of a new launch trailer.

The trailer reveals two more types of Titans players will be facing: the 50-foot tall Armored Titan and the brand new Beast Titan. The latter is described as a "gigantic ape-like creature" that possesses "immeasurable amounts of force" and did not appear in the first season of the show.

Attack on Titan will be released on August 30 for PS4 and Xbox One, and digitally for PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and PC (via Steam). The game will feature upgradeable equipment, with the omni-directional mobility gear, blades, and scabbard all upgradeable with materials gathered from Titans slain. These materials can be gathered from killing Titans on both singleplayer and multiplayer missions.

Last month Koei Tecmo revealed more details about the game's multiplayer mode, titled Scout Mode. Players will be able to recruit up to three friends to venture outside the wall together with. Teams will start at a camp, where they will be able to upgrade gear, change costumes, and prepare resources for fights.

The game is based on the first season of the popular Attack on Titan anime (which is based off the manga, of the same name) and is developed by Omega Force, which is perhaps best known for its work on the Dynasty Warriors series. The studio has also released numerous spin-offs based on third-party licenses for popular anime, such as One Piece: Pirate Warriors.

I've seen gameplay from the japanese version, it's too bad the titans have the same brain dead AI that normal enemies in every Dynasty Warriors game have, they don't offer any challenge at all. Also it's sad that they couldn't afford to get the original music from the anime.

*edit* NVM, just realized that the Beast Titan appears earlier in the manga than I remembered. Still, I hope this turns out to be a good one.
