Assassin's Creed 3 Remastered Is Finally On Its Way

Comes included in Assassin's Creed Odyssey's Season Pass.

Ubisoft has announced a remaster for Assassin's Creed III. The 2012 entry into Ubisoft's franchise concluded the storyline of modern day protagonist Desmond Miles, and started what would become known as the Kenway Saga.

Assassin's Creed III: Remastered can be bought as a standalone title but it also comes included in the season pass for Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Regardless of how you buy it, the game launches for Xbox One, PS4, and PC in March 2019.

Now Playing: Assassin's Creed Odyssey Season Pass Includes AC3 Remaster, New DLC Story Missions - GS News Update

In our Assassin's Creed III review, Kevin VanOrd gave the game an 8.5/10, writing, "Assassin's Creed 3 is a big game that gives you a lot to do, some of which is fleshed out relatively well, and some of which isn't. It is not, however, content to rest on the series' laurels. It takes chances with its opening, with its story, and with its characters. It expands the series' gameplay in enjoyable and sensible ways. As with many ambitious games, not every arrow fired hits the bull's-eye, yet this big, narratively rich sequel is easy to get invested in. Other games stimulate emotion with manipulative music and teary monologues; Assassin's Creed III rouses your mind and your heart by giving you a glimpse into its characters' souls and letting you judge them on their own merits."

The remaster of Assassin's Creed III isn't the only piece of content that comes included in Odyssey's season pass. You'll get the 2014 HD remaster of Assassin's Creed III: Liberation--which we gave a 6/10 in our review--as well. You'll also get two story add-ons that are each divided into three episodes: Legacy of the First Blade and The Fate of Atlantis. Legacy of the First Blade sees Kassandra or Alexios meeting the first individual to use the hidden blade--which Assassin's Creed II tells us is the Persian assassin Darius--and The Fate of Atlantis delves into the history behind the famed underwater city.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey launches for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on October 5.

I enjoyed AC3 a lot, but there’s no way in hell I’d want to play it in 2019.

Just because it was good for it’s time doesn’t make it a timeless classic.

I think I am the odd one out on this, but I rather enjoyed AC3. Probably mostly because I find that era in history rather interesting so it drew me in a bit more than most people.

Didn't ask for it and I do see its failings, but I enjoyed it. Maybe it was the setting that got me, but I just found it rather interesting.

Probably the setting though, would love to play more games set around/during the American Revolution. Mostly all we get is mods for Mount and Blade as well as ARMA, Total War, small indie games that look like minecraft (Rise of Liberty which is okay), etc.

May I ask WHO was voting for the AC3 remaster, to make it FINALLY come out? I think I may have gotten about 3-5 hours through the game, and set it down permanently. The first part of the game was the most fun, and then Connor took over.. words words, words, run around, words...

AC2 is the only one that I finished all the way through, including purchasing all DLC's, and AC 4 was fun (even though I played mostly with the ships until it got boring). Maybe Ubi should spend their resources making an AC game that doesn't get tired and played out halfway through??

At least that's one AC game to look forward to. I'll skip Odyssey as (like Origins) that should just be a new IP and doesn't fit the AC franchise; honestly, Origins and Odyssey just look like someone with massive feet forcing there way into a pair of shoes that are too small for them.

Never understood the hate for AC3, the story was well written, it was visually brillant (at the time). Sure, the mechanics were a bit clunky at times and the dialogue a bit long-winded but it was a great adventure. The wolfpack mode was a lot of fun as well (for those of us that worked out it shouldn't be played like a COD game and actually required some tactical thought and mild patience).

@illusivepickledonionman: Except for Unity, which was awful. . . and Origins, which only just qualifies as an AC game.

@ssdd_again: i thought origins was ok as a game although it definitely shouldn't have been called AC and should have been it's own thing. Definitely agree about unity, that game was just very bad.

Half of this game is a damn tutorial. I’ve played and beaten every AC game, and I can’t figure out why people love this one so much. It’s down there with Unity to me.

Assassin's Creed 3 is hot garbage - by far the worst game in the series and the one that convinced me the series was going nowhere. Why would we want it again?

@Thanatos2k: its free game if you bought season pass..... Probably meant the season pass is going to be pretty below average if they had to include this.

Since it's being included in the ACO season pass, I'm guessing that owners of the original probably won't get it discounted/free. Guess we'll see.

what i would like to see is someone marathon every creed game ever made -- not in one sitting, but over the span of a few weeks. would this be possible without going insane?

@Xristophoros: I tried that once. Not a marathon, but I didn't play anything else for about two weeks. AC1 is a bad game, and it burnt me out on the series before I really even got started. I made it through AC2 before I needed to play something else.

@Xristophoros: I've liked most the series, and really liked a couple of them, but that first game is bad. It got by on novelty and pretty graphics in 2007, but it controls like butt, the combat sucks, and the rest of the gameplay is super shallow.

I’m not entirely sure I approve of this culture where we “finally” get a remaster of, well, anything really. Sure, it’s nice to get a revision of a great game every once in a while but now it seems like it’s expected and gamers feel entitled to it. I just don’t like the idea of potentially stagnating creativity for the future by looking TOO MUCH to the past.

@Ant_17: Far Cry 3 doesn't need a remaster; it still holds up just fine.

Honestly, I'm not sure AC3 needs one either, really.

The last game that I found really fun in the series to be honest. Afterwards it just went south to me and yes includes black flag never been a fan of pirating or sailing I prefer the OG trilogy of being an assassin.

Origins was ok but didnt feel like the templars were the big bad. I get it its the origins of the story but couldve used abit more context with Juno and Minerva and the super race before man etc. The next game Im iffy on also and the rumours about the first bunch of hours being a love story is iffy in this world unless she is a templar just for an interesting plot twist

YES! I've been really wanting this, I really want to replay it, and want to platinum it, but the multiplayer gets in the way, would have to buy dlc, and it's borderline unplayable on ps3, but now I can finally do it!

When I first played the game when it came out, the game was mediocre bordering on poor. The character of Connor was boring to me, the game was buggy, the music (while fantastic when there) I felt was lacking in quantity and I hated the ending. It basically took out aspects I liked from the Ezio trilogy, and put things in that I didn't like. In my view, it was the worst Assassin's Creed to date. It wasn't until I had replayed it when it became backward compatible a month or so before Origins that I had become to enjoy it just fine. It turns out it's a great game in my opinion. I just needed to take it for what it was rather than what it wasn't. I actually liked Connor fine, the game wasn't as buggy as I remembered, and the lack of music during exploration didn't bother me as much, in fact, it may have enhanced the atmosphere. Also, knowing where the series went after three, the ending no longer bothered me.

After I finished three I then went back to my second least favorite to see if I would also enjoy that, which is Unity, and I also like that fine now too. Now, the first Assassin's Creed, considering I hadn't gone back to it, I consider my least favorite. I was thinking about getting on backward compatible as it's 4K enhanced. I think it's cool that a remaster is coming, but like Rogue, the issue I have is that I've already played it recent enough that it's fresh on my mind. With Rogue, I didn't want to play it since I was pretty much done with last-gen but ended up buying it because it became backward compatible, and so I didn't feel the need for the remaster anymore. Ah, this makes me want to listen to the AC3 soundtrack.

@NTM23: Like your observations ;-) So may I ask: what is GOOD about "Unity"? Could you tell me more about it please? I own it, but haven't played it because I've heard it's really messed up by so many people, even in this thread (btw not interested in the co-op portions) :-( I think I'd like the new control scheme with the location & time era B-) thx :-)

@blitxxx1981: The bugs are almost entirely gone. There might be some weird clipping issues every once in a while, but other than that, it's fine. As for the game itself, I thought it might be the most fun I've had with the series on a gameplay level. Everything is fine tuned, and the ability to fight and specialize with different weapons was a great addition. I really liked fighting with heavy weapons, which turns me off in most games. The customization options were cool, and unlocking costumes and stuff felt like it had a real purpose outside of being a time killer. But my favorite part was that the side missions were a step up from most games. At the risk of being shouted down, I thought many of them were on the level of Witcher 3 side quests. I loved the Sherlock Holmes-like investigations and some of the heists. Money is actually useful, so getting a big payday from a perfectly executed mission felt rewarding. Then, without giving too much away, there are these fracture things that allow "time travel" in the animus and some of the time periods were very interesting. They all take place in Paris if I remember correctly, at some important times in the city's history.

The modern day story is still terrible, which AC3 ruined imo, but luckily it's stripped way back and isn't really important. Other than that, the game is a lot of fun and only gets the hate because of the terrible launch, which is deserved I guess. I bought it a year later as the complete edition, and never had to deal with it. I recommend it highly if you're a fan of the series.

Sorry Ubi, but NOPE! No buy here because Ubi does NOT know how to do true Remasters. They recompile the old game code and just do a little graphic tweaking to get a small advantage out of modern day systems (simple cash grabs) :-(

As much as I loved AC3, I still feel screwed by the Ezio Trilogy and Rogue Remastered... They were both "barely" remastered at all and both still carried over the original issues. The only benefit to Ezio is it had all of the single player DLC's and the 2 mini films, but Rogue was still also as clunky as the original & did not look much better imo, though I'd pick Rogue over Ezio

Another Ubi one I feel shot by is FarCry 3 Classic (I do thank them for not calling it a Remaster though because it really isn't and actually has it's own new issues). Thankfully I didn't buy it because it came with my FC5 Season Pass

Best in the series for me. Can't wait, though these remasters aren't much different from the original. They'll probably change the gun mechanic to make it more like Rogue, but with that i wish we'd have some Line Fighting.
